Is the expiration date on whey powder still count if its been opened? I found a container i left at my mom's house, it shouldnt expire till 2007, but its been opened and unused for over half a year.

As long as it's been dry, it's fine. If it's gotten clumpy, it's iffy...but you ought to be able to taste/smell a problem before it'd be bad enough to hurt you.

I'm just curious, if the protein powder hasn't been opened yet but is expired, do you think this is still okay? (like only a few months ago...). Or is it pretty much bad right on the date it is labeled?

It should be fine.

Taste a bit

taste good = good
tastes like rotten milk = bad

What Aaron said. Companies are hyper-vigilant about expiration dates for a variety of reasons...stuff (well, not milk, but other stuff) is good well past the expiration date. Eggs are usually good for another couple months, but they won't dare extend the date because a rotten egg would offend somebody, probably the wrong somebody who'd start something over it. Powder is good for years longer, but again, any possible risk is avoided by giving it a short shelf life. And it helps with product turnover.

ahh, okay, that's a good idea. I smelt it and it seems fine. Thanks for the advice!

Ditto that - Can you call my SO Jaleena? Stupid man tosses food out even if it is near the expiration date. Tossed 1/2 Gal of milk because it expired the next day. Dumbass.

I've found milk doesn't like to be more than a day or maybe two after its expiration, so I make sure to use it...but other stuff lasts way long...I don't understand throwing stuff out
Except at work last year, I was cleaning out the cupboards and found a brick of brown sugar that expired when I was two...I threw that out
