I saw girl climbing on the step mill sideways. She'd do a couple of minutes facing one way then slowly turn to face the other way. She was crossing one leg over the other. Is there a benefit to this, or as odd as it looked?

I see people doing this all the time. I'm sure I would fall and break my neck if I tried it. I'm sure someone told them it tones the inner and outer thighs better than the "yes/no" machines.

I have done this and I can say I can feel it in the outer and inner thighs(which our my problem areas).

Well, that was the only thing I could think of why she was doing it. At the same time I was doing my bulgarian lunges, thinking she should be doing these instead.

I do this and I don't know that it does anything significant other than breaks up the monotony of long ss cardio on that beast!!

The other thing that I do on the stair mill is 2 stairs at a time - I really feel it in my glutes.

I guess I just thought I would be on my butt more then the machine if I tried to walk up sideways. I'm not very graceful.

X2 -- I've done this for 1) monotony and 2) to give the quads/hammies a break once in a while when they are tired by hitting the legs from a different angle. I DO NOT do it to tone the inner/outer thighs.

I do the sideways thing as well. Sometimes I'll just step up using the balls of my feet. My calves will hurt the next day if I do it long enough. Anything to break up the boredom.
