Just curious what an equally good PWO carb source would be.

yes, something faster acting is more desirable. :)

bagels are good.

I use rice cakes usually because the bagels will get cold in my locker by the time I am done working out. :curse:

Most likely not a whole one since they're usually about 60g carbs.

I usually use maltodextrin powder myself.

Really..... especially if I lift in the morning I like this option.

How do you know what the precise nutritional information is for your bagel though? Can you just weight it on the digital scale and go from there? I LOVE the small dense jewish ones.

Bagels are good PWO? I've been dreaming of a cinnamon raisin bagel for so long.... I should check the labels at the store tomorrow, maybe half a bagel would be easier than a bunch of rice cakes.

My favourite is usually to have an apple, and a protein bar for the carb/protein combo, and I will usually have a few of those Cracker Jacks rice cakes with it, and a coke to wash it down. Best PWO meal ever! YUM!

I really don't see why one couldn't use bagels as a PWO food.

I thought PWO food still had to be clean?

Not to bring up the past, but this is the 02 thread that still is confusing for me--see post #288 in response to my ? back then . . .

I'm still having a hard time seeing the line of demarcation between that and ezekiel . . . The organic stuff is not processed food . . . I just feel like we're boycotting wheat . . . is anything wheat related aside from ezekiel bread and those awful wheat bisquix on the clean foods list? . . . ????

AND THEN "PATTYNY" RESPONDED WITH:

"Whole wheat used in most commercially packaged products, except for companies such as Bobs Red Mill, King Arthur and Arrowhead, is processed exactly like white flour. The darker colored bran, germ and endosperm are mechnically separated then recombined into whole wheat.
Insoluble fiber is lost in the milling process"

So basically I'm understanding that even though bagels aren't technically clean that they are an ok PWO meal?

I consider high-glycemic carbs as clean when eaten PWO, because that's when you need them.

Hi this is my first post here B)

And it may be a silly question but here goes.. Is there any reason I shouldn't have a larger meal PWO, larger than what my body actually needs at this time?

I was getting major blood sugar crashes shortly after my pwo meal that consisted of a protein shake and rice cakes. So to stop this I added a sweetpotato and some fat free cheese to my regular pwo meal and this filled me up for a few hours after, no crash. Would it, for some reason, be better for me to just have the pwo meal that my body needs and have another full meal shortly after (try to get it in before the crash). Hope this makes sense, thanks in advance!

Well...."what your body needs" is relative isn't it?

Maybe your original PWO meal wasn't enough?

How do you work out how much PWO carbs you need again?

Pandora
05-07-2006, 05:34 PM
Not to mention that after you PWO meal you will need to fuel up in another hour or a little more, rather than the usual eat every 2-3 hour window. The PWO meal get uptaken and used fast.... so eat again soon.

It depends on the rest of the days totals primarily (and how that one meal fits into those totals)
