Ok, I've done some research on refeeds and for the life of me, I don't understand it. When and how do you it? I've read every 4-5 days, every 7-10 days. Are there any better guidelines or should I just follow my body?

Hiya. I asked this a while back and was directed here http://www.leanbodiesfitness.net/showthread.php?t=1240

Hope it helps!

I read that and I still don't understand. Perhaps I'm being hard-headed.

Start w/ every 7 days and see how it goes....it also depends on how lean you are and how your diet is.

Are you doing a ketogenic diet? Refeeds (not to be confused with cheat meals) are mainly for the purpose of refilling muscle glycogen and restoring leptin levels, which are depleted and lowered through a week's worth of cutting carbs (and cals). If you're doing UD2.0 (which I imagine you're not, because if you had read Lyle's book, you would know what refeeds are), then you would have a refeed starting on Thursday evening through Saturday evening, while dieting Sunday through Thursday AM.

The reason you're confused is that there are a lot of ways to do refeeds. Everyone's going to be different, and everyone's body reacts in an individual way.

The best thing to do is not necessarily to try to understand it, per se, but just to give it a shot and see how your body reacts. Try once a week to start, if you've been dieting for a while. (If you're fat, or havent been dieting lately, then refeeds don't really have a place in your life yet.)

It would help to know more about your situation, but even with that info people's advice is going to be all over the map. Either pick someone's advice and follow it, or try refeeds for yourself and see how you do.

Well, let's see. Last Friday, starting with dinner through Sunday night, I seemed to have eaten a lot more food than I typically would. The result, I felt better. I had more energy. I actually had an appetite that I haven't seen in months. So, if that type of "refeed" works for me, should I stick with it?

There seems to be some confusion here-

Refeeds are periods of high carbohydrate AND low fat intake. They raise hormone levels, namely leptin and refill muscle gyclogen during low calorie and usually low carb intake. Refeeds serve a psychological AND physiological benefit.

Cheat meals are different. They are not 'needed' while dieting. They are characterized by eating whatever you want provided the calories are not out of control (pizza, cookies, whatever). BUT, cheat meals have no physiological benefit. One isolated meal and especially one meal composed of fats and carbs is not going to impact hormone levels.

Exactly.

I suggest daily refeeds. And, don't worry about fat content.

And at the end of the day does this fun get you to where you need to be? Ask yourself this question: Have I taken the meaning out of Refeeds: Refeeds are put in place as a purpose, as part of a goal-specific strategy.

I think what's happening to some of you guys is that your taking the refeeds and your basically whoring out your refeeds by misusing them. Don't make working towards the stage any harder than it has to be...

I hope so... Just be careful.... Don't misuse your refeeds...:shades:

I want to see you hitting that stage with your best!

Well, the question is: did it work for you? Were you on a fatloss plateau before and did you once again start losing fat after? If so, yes, it worked. (Although two entire days of "refeed" is almost certainly too much. If I were you I'd try one day the next time and see if you get comparable - or better - results.)
