If by NFP you mean the pull-out method, we did that for about four months and the end result is my 9 year old son. I didn't do all that ovulation tracking, too lazy for that. It was all medical after that, LOL.

i "followed" the cervical mucus method. we weren't necessarily preventing at the time so i can't say how effective it was for us and i was also long term breastfeeding so that also had an impact on fertility. but apparently it is supposed to be very effective if you know what you are doing and follow the rules consistently. according to our bodies, ourselves, if you follow the ovulation method there is a failure rate of 3% in the first year, and a with the symptothermal method their is a failure rate of 2% in the first year. i think that is actually a really great failure rate considering there are absolutely no undesirable side effects other than pregnancy. for some though, this is not an acceptable risk to take.
on the upside, it is a great way to learn more about your body and appreciate the miracle of a woman's body :)

Check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. NFP is involved but easy once you know what to watch for by tracking basal body temps, cervical changes and mucus.

I used NFP to know exactly when to time sex to get pregnant and it worked every time (I've been pregnant 4 times but 2 ended in miscarriage). It is very empowering to know exactly what your body is doing and when. The book is excellent.

That book is great! I totally learned a zillion things about myself from it. If you are willing to pay attention to your body and track things, it can work very well.
