no, not for me :bitch:
I met a woman at the gym who might be a potential client. she was telling me about how she is trying to get back in the gym and regain strength and muscle after a long lay off from surgery.
she bought ankle weights b/c someone at a store told her they would help rebuild leg mass. I didn't say anything, but if I train her, I would like to bring it up.
so, question is, do they have any purpose? I think they're idiotic, but I'd like to have a reason for my negativity and hesitation when I talk to her.
thoughts?

Purpose: joint strain.
How can 2 extra pounds on your ankles REALLY make a hell of a difference in weight training. It can't.

But raising 2 soup cans over your head for 8 reps will keep you "toned" nicely and keep you from bulking!

When you are making the transition from say 15 to 20 pound DBs it may be too much at once. Strapping them on your wrists while you transition might be a way to use 1 -3 pounders.

I had a trainer who wanted me to wear them while I walked on the treadmill. :bitch:
He wasn't my trainer for very long after he brought that idea up. :finger:

I've done this. But not at the gym...I'm not that brave

Not that I have any specific training to justify this comment, but I think they are useless. I have had (as in past tense) boots that weighed like 2lbs. Remember the platform comeback?

just ankle? or joint strain in general - like the knee/rest of foot?
I think she told me that she was wearing them around - and not just at the gym -

My work bought me steel-toes. They're heavy.

No, I'm way too porky to be toned. But I could probably juggle a girl that would call herself "toned."

I had ankle weights for rehab after my spinal surgery....but i was so weak at first just lifting my leg was a challenge. Aside from rehab, not sure where they would fit in for a workout.

I wear ankle weights -they are great, when I'm diving in a dry suit and want to stop my feet going above me head!

I read somewhere that wrist and ankle weights during cardio can raise blood pressure, as well as cause joint strain.

I strap them on to do (Roman Chair) leg raises. Gives a killer squeeze on the abs.
