Hi everyone,
This is one of my first posts on this board, however I've been reading this forums for a few months now. You're all extremely educated on weight training, so I had a question I needed somebody to answer.
I'm a 16 year old female and have been weight training since about March of 2006. I love it and take it pretty seriously. Right now, I'm following Thunder's 3 day full body routine(I really like it, by the way)
Anyways, grade 11 has just started for me, and obviously this will mess up my daily schedule a bit. I'm going to have to switch some of my workouts to different times of the day to be able to fit them in. I have a spare class first period in the morning, so I was thinking I would eat breakfast and then go to the gym to do my workout. It would be around 9:30 am by the time I'm done my workout, and obviously too early to eat lunch. I know the importance of eating a high protein meal after every workout and so I'm wondering if it would be a good idea for me to purchase some protein powder to take after my workouts in the morning? I also have a few more questions:
-At my local Wal-Mart, they sell whey protein powder. There are a few different brands to choose from. I'm particularly interested in one brand, which is PV Whey Protein in a Raspberry Cranberry flavor. It has 80 calories per serving and 20 grams of protein per scoop. Would this be a good choice?
I'm thinking I will buy this one, because it's pretty low calorie. I'm kind of concerned with adding extra calories, as stupid as that sounds, because I already take in a LOT of calories for somebody my age. I know you need extra calories to promote muscle growth and to prevent muscle breakdown, but I'm just wondering if adding protein powder on the mornings that I train would be a good idea?
I'm thinking I'll purchase the one I mentioned above, because it's the cheapest, and I'm not sure how I'll like it, so I obviously don't want to spend $40.00 on protein powder if I end up hating it! lol.
So if I happened to purchase this protein powder, would one scoop be enough after my workout(20 grams of protein), to last me the 2 hours until lunch? Or would I need more than 20 grams of protein?
Obviously, as you can probably tell from my message, I'm very confused about this and would appreciate any help you had to offer! Thank you! It's much appreciated. :)
