Some people bruise from taking fish oil. I think it was H&G's Mom who said she gets bad bruising from it.

Why is that?

Good question, I do too.
Vitamin C deficiency. Thinning skin due to age (sorry). If you take aspirin, high vitamin E, Ginko or garlic it may contribute. I think some medications including steroids.

I've heard that lack of vitamin K can cause one to bruise easily.
I think lettuce and other leafy greens are a good source of the vitamin.

Why is that?
I think because it thins the blood out. I recall her saying that if she takes too many she looks beat up. I bruise really easily too - but I always have. Fish oil / etc has no effect.
If I recall I think I also read that ephedrine can cause an increase in bruising  .

This was insightful. I have heard of some of it, but learned some new things as well:

But I'm the same and I've been out for a few weeks now and am still bruising like a mofo. So, if I'm taking steps to remedy all of the things that were listed previously and havent' taken any fish oils in a few weeks, then what?

yep, anything over 3-4 caps a day and I look like a beaten woman! Even at 3-4 caps a day I notice a slight increase in bruising. I also have pretty light/fair skin so that doesn't help.

I'm with you guys, I bruise easily and the majority of my bruises come from unknown sources. People comment all the time, "what happened there" but I have no clue.

I'm very fair skinned so that doesn't help the matter. If I'm going out somewhere special I'll cover those ugly bruises up with Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs.

For me-- when I start noticing bruises, it means my cortisol is probably high. (higher than desirable).

Cortisol can do this?

a bit off topic - im not sure what would cause easy bruising besides low iron but should u have a bruise use Arnica (homeopathic remedy) - comes in gel or cream form. can be found at health food stores... it helps get rid of the bruising/stops it from being really noticeable... works like a charm!! also helps with muscle aches…

Well, more likely it would be very high cortisol (not just temporarily elevated) levels for extended periods of time.

Is this a new occurence or has it always happened? My brother, sister, and I used to always bruise really easily, and get nose bleeds so my mother took us to get tested and found out we have a problem with our platelets which increases our issues with internal bleeding. I'm basically saying if this is something that has always happened get a blood workup done to make sure it's not issues other than your supplements.

Thanks--I have thought about that--I do have issues with nose bleeds--had to have it cauterized twice. What did they do --in your situation?

They did the check because we were getting nose bleeds and bruising fairly easily. My brother has the worst clot time and he was getting nose bleeds all the time several times they had to pull him from school and send him to the hospital to have them cauterized.
Really there is nothing they can do, they basically told us it has more to do with internal bleeding so we should be careful if we play contact sports and not to take anything with asprin because it was a blood thinner and we don't need that.
I would go have it checked out, better to know! It could be a different disorder than low factor 9 in your platelets, which is what we have, so there could be different things they could do for it.

I recently bought the A535 with Arnica (found it in the pharmacy at my grocery store), it worked well on my hockey bruises...seemed to heal a lot faster.
And its almost odour-free. :)
