My routine calls for this or board press. http://www.weightliftingdiscussion.com/floorbarbellpress.html So far I haven't attempted them, is there a different exercise I could substiture for them? It looks like something I could hurt myself doing alone.
Pin presses with the pins set low.
Regular bench presses with a pause.

Regular bench presses with a pause.
How is that the same as a floor press?
In a floor press, the ROM is decreased and more emphasis is placed on the triceps.

Why would you be afraid you would hurt yourself? I would just lower the weight until I was more certain of my form and the movement.

The results of a floor press gone wrong

hahahha
Floor presses are fine if you do them intellegently, like any exercise.
Benches are not usually the same as floor presses, as most people have a shorter rom on floor press and no leg involvement.
replacement exercises? board press with feet on the bench, yea bbr style baby. even that is differnet as the stretch is felt into the boards/chest where as in floor presses you get feedback throuhg the triceps
My floor press is about an inch off my chest. I like floor presses with chains.
fun!

Could you not do this similar using a low aerobic step on the floor?

I don't think so, but you would need to describe what you mean....

OK instead of the board or pad, use a low aerobic step and just set the pins differently on the cage?
I'm thinking it would raise you a bit further off the ground than the padded board allowing for a bit more ROM and it would put you closer to the pins?

Strive, you don't want increased ROM on a floor press...you want your triceps on the floor at the bottom of the movement.
For the OP, you could substitute db's for the bb. That's what I do, since I'm too short to do them properly in our cage.

Ahhh okay...I see that now. I misread Matt's post as "ROM is INCREASED" instead of DECREASED. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

FWIW, although different from a floor press, paused bench presses are also great for developing starting strength in teh bench press, which is what teh floor press does as well.
