When I do squats, I tend to feel it more above my knees as opposed to in my butt and hamstrings. I've tried the tips I know of, like lifting up my toes and pushing through my heels, but I still don't feel it much in the butt. I've tried to lean back more, but it always feels like I'm gonna tip over. What am I doing wrong?

Are you initiating the movement at the knees or at the hips?
Have you watched some full squat, or olympic squat video examples?

can you post a video of yourself squatting?
what are your knees doing when you squat? are the coming in knock-kneed?
what about your ankle flexability/mobillity? if that is poor it can give you some knee pain as well.
