Is it normal to have cramping early in pregnancy? I'm still getting wicked cramps like I'm going to be getting my period!

there is so much going on down there right now. i wouldn't worry unless you start bleeding. i'm pretty sure you're past the implantation stage, so any bleeding now would be not so good.
the cramping could be uterine ligament stretching. i remember having that very early on.

What if I have bad cramping (mostly) on one side? I've just been reading about the symptoms of ectopic pregnancies & I'm beginning to freak out a little. :wavesad:

i'd say if you have any concerns that you can't "shake" then call your doc. better safe than sorry.
hope all is well.

With my first pregnancy, I did get some intense cramping, on and off, for the first few months. Everything turned out fine. Normal for some people. But if you're worried (I was with my cramping) you should run it by your OB.

I didn't read your second post. If it's just one one side, I would give a quick call to your OB and let them know that.

(I also had an ectopic between my 1st and 2nd children; classic one-sided cramping, but also at times some cramping all over.)

So I take it that if a pregnancy is ectopic, the doctors will have to terminate it right?

And, how many weeks can you let it go before it the baby gets big enough that it can burst a fallopian tube?

You wouldn't be able to go weeks. It would be too painful. Call your dr.

Hmm, well I am already @ 5 weeks. It's painful, but not SEVERE. I have read though that some ectopic pregnancies have no symptoms at all...so not everyone would know if it was happening or not.

Dare, yes, ectopics have to be terminated. Some with medication, some with surgery (mine was surgery).

Ectopics are a medical emergency, so you should call your doc ASAP to be on the safe side.

pressure on sides can also be the pelvis widening..something like that so I've read. Everything is expanding to give baby room. I had the same thing cramping and stuff on sides

if it's really painful I agree you should call your Dr.

yes- there is nothing else they can do.

Thank you! I'm saying my prayers too...

I decided to go to the doctors yesterday & get it all checked out. He did a couple of examinations & said that the area of my pain seems to be located more where my intestine is than my pelvis. He said my uterus is enlarged (don't know if that's good or bad? ) & said he doesn't see any reason why the baby shouldn't be in my uterus. But he is sending me in for an ultrasound on Friday morning to make sure everything is okay & hopefully the baby is where it's supposed to be! Better safe than sorry! I'll let you guys know how everything goes.. I am feeling a lot better about it today though!
Thanks for the support! :console:

Unless you're like my friend who was an ectopic baby. Doctors wanted to terminate, his mother wanted prayer, and wam bam, he ended up in the womb and was born healthy and screaming. :)

Hi ladies! Well I just got back from my ultrasound....seems like baby is where it's supposed to be!! phew! That sure makes me feel better! The U/S tech said they might make me come back in another few weeks, when the baby is a little bigger, just to make sure things are still okay.

I had cramping off/on during the 4th-6th weeks, too.... and it was quite painful, but ironically, it was actually less severe than my usual monthly cramping (due to fibroids, I had very painful cycles - cramped straight from ovulation to period every month).

When I went in to my 1st prenatal, the nurse asked what symptoms I was having, and I said none, basically, other than fatigue. She asked, 'cramping'? And I was like, "oh, yeah, alot of that." Then she got all alarmed and I told her that I wasn't concerned because there was no spotting, it was actually a REDUCTION in cramping compared to what I was used to, and the presence of cramping was actually reassuring me that I was indeed pregnant and everything was chugging along. Since I wasn't concerned, she decided not to be, either.

And now cramping is totally gone. Patiently waiting for next symptom to appear.
