Are there any multi vitmamins that are better than others? Right now I take "One a Day" and my doctor had never heard of it so she said it must not be very good and that I should be taking Centrum. When I looked at the labels, they don't appear to be much different to me, but I don't know all the RDA's so I'm not 100% sure what I should be looking for.

I take extra calcium and vitamin C as well. I've also had some people mention that a single multi vitamin is not enough and that I should look into something like Animal Pak. I'm not into taking that many pills a day, or spending that much money on vitamins, and I when I did a search on the other site no one was really all for the different multi packs available.

So, do I need to make a change, or is there anything in particular I should be looking for in a multi?

Thanks :compute:

This is just my opinion but I think if you're eating clean and getting veggies and fruits and cottage cheese every day you're probably getting all you need from you food. I take just a regular multi and vitamins that you can get at the drug store...I don't think you need anything fancy, it's a supplement to your diet.

Your doctor has never heard of "One-A-Day"? Has s/he never witnessed a commercial break? Or gone to a grocery store? Not being rude, but I thought One-A-Day was generally well-known...

That was where part of my confusion came in. You should have seen the conversation:

Doc: What kind of multi-vitamin do you take?
Me: One a Day.
Doc: No, not often, what kind do you take?
Me: That's the name of it, One a Day, and I take the women's formula.
Doc: Oh, you're not sure of the name but you know it's for women?
Me: Yes, I know the name, the the actual brand name is One a Day.
Doc: What is? :suicide:

We went in circles, and she finally came to the conclusion she'd never heard of it so it must not be very good, or I must not know the actual name of the vitamin I take.

At that point, I would have gotten my purse, told her to have a nice day and left. ;)

I take One A Day as well and my gyno never heard of it either! But I switched after some more experiences with him. I take that multivitamin, extra folic acid as well as extra vitamin c. I get sick to often.

Unless you live under a rock, I don't understand how you can never have heard of One A Day - they've been around forever!

I'm probably gonna get flames for this, but I have come to the conclusion that doctors suck.

I'm not saying I don't go, but I am STILL trying to find one with an actual f*ing brain. I think I could write a book FULL of the misdiagnoses and negative experiences I have had with doctors. I have never had one positive visit. You may think I am exagerating, but after reading this, I have decided I am going to start a journal about it, so you can read that and judge for yourself.

No, I'm with you! I remember asking a doctor one time about losing weight, and I got told to eat an egg at night for a snack to get some protein and that would help. Sure, sounds good, don't you wish we could all just eat a hardboiled egg at night and all our fat would just disappear?

Someone should start a thread about the worst medical/nutrition advice that they every received. :p

I take Nature's Plus High Potency Ultra One Daily Caps They smell like cat pee and turn your pee bright yellow, but I really like them. One of my coworkers got me started taking them after I commented that I smelled cat pee in the office. She was keeping the vitamins in her desk.

Im with ya.

I spent yrs trying to find what was "wrong" with me. the 4 drs that I went to, led me to believe i was depressed and in need of antidepressant (which i never took) Not one of them was able to diagnose and properly test the symptoms of Hashimoto's thyroid disease. It took a wonderful gal on the internet, with guidaince from her to finally figure it out, get properly tested and diagnosed. I have very little faith in drs, sadly. But there are good ones out there. THankfully like my endocrinologist who got me feeling well again. Just far and few.

This is off the original topic, but one time I was at the dermatologist and he asked me if I used birth control. I figured he wanted to know because the pill and things could cause some kind of skin reaction, so I told him I was not on the pill and used condoms (at the time). He then asked me how often I had sex and I said "what does that have to do with anything?" He said, "Nothing, I'm just curious." I never went back there. I know I should have reported him but I was in my mid-20's at the time and didn't want to deal with it. That was my worst doctor's experience ever!

I have an awesome doctor. Pity she's back in NZ and I'm in Australia :( I have much respect for her and trust her a lot.

And for the multivitamin I take a brand called Centrum.
