View Full Version : Measurement confusion

I'm sure there is a simple answer to this but I just don't know what it is. I found a form that has my measurements from about a year or so ago. While the weight hasn't changes, the numbers have. For example, the measurements that we taken on my legs and forearm then are smaller than what they are now. Can I assume that this is muscle development? If the weight didn't change I'd think it wasn't fat. I've been weight training much more seriously for the past 4 months so I'm just looking for a little clarity on the number differences.
Thanks for the help!

Have you shrank in other places? I'd think to get a forearm measurement to go up, it's likely to be muscle...you'd have to gain a lot of bodyfat before it showed up noticeably there.

My clothes seem to fit better but i haven't noticed any significance "shrinking". unless my measurements were inaccuarate?
Were the 2 different measurements taken by 2 different people? That could be why they're different...?
If your weight has stayed about the same, but measurements have gone down, I would assume it was from muscle development and fatloss  Good stuff - wish that would happen to me :lol:

The measurements went UP! that's the confusing part to me. I thought they would go down. I'm ok with them going up if they're muscle...if not...no good

You've probably put some muscle on in your extremities, nothing magical about that. The first year I worked out, I put a quarter inch on my arms every month for the entire year - three inches total - but my weight didn't go up much if at all.
I would say, though, that measurements taken a year apart, likely from two different people, maybe from the same person but with two different tapes or whatever...you can't expect much in the way of comparable accuracy. I can measure my waist with a regular tape measure and it'll show 32" or so, and then I can take one of those accutrack things and it'll say less than 31". Just a difference in how much tension is applied to the tape.
Bottom line: don't worry about this. :)
