View Full Version : postive pregnancy test?
Ok, I took one this morning and it was kind of positive!!
before I get too excited, I am right in hearing numerous times, that it doesn't matter how faded the one line is as long as something faintly shows?
I evdn dragged my husband out of bed to make sure I wasn't imagining it and he saw it!

Yeah - if you see anything - it's a positive no matter how faint. I did the same thing (grabbed my husband to verify) with my last pregnancy to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.
Congratulations!

I heard there could be mistakes when it shows negative. But when it shows positive - that is it !!!!! CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woohoo!!!! Positive is positive baby!! Of course, if you're like me, you'll be off to the store to buy five more tests just to make sure! And then you'll keep the positive test to put in the baby book.. (OK, I may be the only one that does that. )
ETA - How about those digital tests?? Surely something electronic can't be doubted, right?

you're NOT the only one who does that! every time i've had a pregnancy "scare", i've bought a minimum of 4 tests, just to make sure.
my ob said she usually hears that the minimum is 5! :)

I remember being all excited after taking the test and then calling my dr. to make an appt. - being told that they'll see me in 6 weeks. Well, um, don't I have to come in for you to verify? They said if ya took a test and it showed positive, you're pregnant! Ok then!
So congratulations!

Yup no matter how faint it is - the HCG hormone must be present for it to turn at all so any faint line is a positive! Its just early on plus like you said if you are drinking tons of water your urine is diluted so it will be faint.
Congrats :D

I would advice taking a picture of the test to scrapbook... the test itself will ruin anything you have near it in a scrapbook over time. Plus it will reek like urine, LOL :funny:

ok, I did another one this morning:oops:
and I know shut up already, but the line is so faint-it doesn't matter if I have to hold so close up so I can see it right?

No, don't shut up...many of us have been there! (That stupid line.....show up already!!! :taz: ) I feel your frustration. If there's any line at all, you're preggers, but I know you want to see a dark unmistakable line.
Maybe it's the plan of the test makers......to tell us that you can get a result the first day of your missed period, knowing that the line will be so faint we'll end up buying 5 more tests....:uhuh:
You have an appt today, right?

I took no less than 10 tests with my last pregnancy. We even lined 'em up and took a picture because it was so funny that I was so freaked out! The first one I took was very faint though and I had to hold it up to the light to see it as well. I showed it to DH who verified that there was indeed a faint line and with that DH turned over and went back to sleep!
Did you make an appointment with the doc? Or did you have one today. I wasn't quite sure when reading through the thread.
ok, good, I'm not the only one:p
I called my dr today and have an app on Nov 6th. seems so far away, and I had to order my fetal radiation badge for work...
Ok help me people! I am freaking out big time! I took the last pregancy test in the box, well just b/c I had it and it has been another week and I wanted to see how postive it would show up. But it came out negative!
I was doing a lot of reading on this, and the more I find, this does happen to quite a few people. I have all the what if's. what if I misscarried, what if it was a chemical pregnacny ect. but the thing is I still have every single symptom. and I know people can make up stuff in thier head if they really want to be pregnant. but I still feel pregnant, and have all of the physical changes, i'm talking about the veiny big boobs, ect. I get extemely winded doing nothing, ect ect. :(
I know some girls that said there test wouldn't she pos until 2-3 weeks. this is my 2nd week. I've had some recent big stressful issues going on my life and now this is added onto my stress.
any thoughts, good or bad?
Carrie

A false negative can happen. I would go get another test just to ease your mind. If you haven't had any bleeding, then you should be ok. How far along are you??
Hope everything is ok.
Meadows

false negatives are more likely than false positives...
Do another test or wait until your doctor to confirm. Your not crazy, if the line showed then the hormone was there at the time.

Did you take this test with first morning urine? if not... results will vary greatly depending on how much water you drink during the day. It could mean nothing, or it could mean something - I would re-test with FIRST MORNING URINE (very important) and then, if neg again you can call your dr to see what your HCG levels are (will tell you if you were preg, if you are preg or if you are mis-carrying). I was one of those late positive testers... especially if i didn't test first thing in the morning.
Take a deep breath. ;)
It was my morning urine:(
how late of a tester were you?
Carrie
10-20-2006, 11:01 PM
There could have been something wrong with the test itself. I wouldn't stress until I took another one.
Ok, I took another one-this time the digital type-in the am again, and it said negative! I feel like I'm going insane!:bawling: :bawling:
I swear I'm still pregant or I have a brain tumor!
I can hear the stress in your emails!
Hey did you check with your doc to see if you could swing by and get a blood pregnancy test done even without seeing the doc?
My doc office will do that for you without an appointment. The blood tests dont have false negatives and could put your mind at ease. It's probably cheaper than buying all those pee sticks too!
Carrie

I think you should visit your doctor to find out exactly what is going on. How late are you for your period? I've heard of people who didn't get a positive test until 3 weeks after their missed period.

well, if it was implantation bleeding like i thought it was (super light, almost 3 days-I am normally a very long, heavy bleeder)
that was on Oct 6th so hasn't been 3 weeks yet....

Have you recently come off birth control? If so, that may have caused the irregular bleeding...just a guess.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you...hope everything is ok.
thanks guys
no I've been off of bc for a whole year now...
I'm really hoping it's b/c I drink so much water? but the last time it seemed pretty concentrated and this morning it wasn't.....
and my main concern is if I indeed (don't even wanna say it) miscarry, then why do I still have ALL of the sympstoms still? sigh
I would try to get to a doctor if you can to ease your mind. A clinic maybe? A blood test will let you know for sure.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer, but after a miscarriage your body doesn't return to normal right away. Hormone levels take just as long to drop as they did to rise.
Sorry, but just having come from the 'dark side' myself, I am dealing with the same thing right now. 'Pregnant' but not.
thanks everybody:)
Cindy-thank you, I want any info I can get;) but I didn't have any pain or spotting or anything so isn't that a little abnormal (although I'm finding there is no such thing as normal!), I'll just have to get the bloodwork somehow or wait a little longer

The brief period you had may have been all that occurred. So early on, there may not have been any spotting necessary. Majority of pregnancies are miscarriages, and most of those, women aren't even aware of it because they just got what they thought was a late period.
Cindy-I know you are right, I have read that many times before:(
but the hope I have is that, I had those positive tests about 1 week after "the blood" , which I know if you've miscarry, they will show up postive, but I wonder for how long it would give the false positive for? And also, if that's right when I "miscarried" then 2 weeks later I should still have every single symtom still?
ugh, I can't wait to get a blood test, of course this is hard to not constantly think about it....

Andi,
Call your Dr back and insist on getting a QUANTITATIVE HCG . It will give a number that can correlate to how many weeks you are pg.
If you did miscarry, and your body doesn't "do it's job" they will do a D & C. But you need to know one way or the other.
Hoping for the best for you.

I'm SO sorry to hear that!! I misscarried Sept 28 - had to have a D&C. Sending you hugs!!
There are no 'what ifs' - you will drive yourself crazy trying to come up with an answer. Miscarriages are unfortunately all too common, and nothing you could have done would have prevented it. So sorry you are going through this!

i miscarried before i had my daughter. i was only 5 weeks along, but it was still pretty traumatic. i did get pregnant again 3 months later, though!
like another poster said, it is very common, moreso than people even know. i know that doesn't diminish the feelings you have, but know that you are not alone in this.

I miscarried too about 2 months before I got pregnant with my son. I was about the same -- maybe 5 weeks along.
I miscarried at about 5 weeks....my first pregnancy.
I would never have know if it weren't for those early detection tests.
I went on to have 3 children in the next 4 years.
