can someone explain to me to what depth constitutes a full squat? parallel, below parallel?

followup question: how is parallel squatting, if that's the definition, a good idea? it seems to me that parallel squatting requires one to put themself in a position that almost necessitates forward knee movement, lumbar straightening, or incorrect knee movement in general?

I understand that only moving down an inch doesn't constitute a squat, but isn't there a point when your pelvis touches the tops of your legs that restricts the amount of depth you can get without compromising mechanical integrity?

and yes, I posted it in wrong forum originally.

A full squat is way below parallel. Hams to calves.
The parallel squat is only a good idea for PL-comp reasons, as many people can push more weight by just breaking parallel than by full squatting. I don't parallel squat, my knees don't like it, and I can't do it well.

But if you have big hams, it'll be just a bit below parallel. :p

but even parallel squatting isn't always a good idea for some people it seems b/c of their unique body structure, pelvic tilts, Q angles, knee integrity, etc.

A guy who works with me (who "used to train several women") told me that full squats will make my hips wider--in his words, "they'll make your hips spread."

I only drank tequilla once in my life. Never again.

that stuff should pretty much come with a disclaimer saying

Two somewheres. And at 7am you'll find yourself eating a cold, leftover enchilada trying to sober up before you go to visit your grandpa.

Maybe I need to go get some...maybe that'll give me good luck tomorrow?

Thank you but no tequila for me. I'm in training. :p

Back to topic...sorry.

I've been doing full squats two ways. One is to go all the way down till my hams hit my calves. The other way is to go down till right before my hips do the "flip" which is not as far down as the former but way below parallel. Is one way better than the other?

Something about squatting I think. Speaking of tequila, I have never had it. Wait I just lied. Memories of San Antonio are coming to me in waves. Eh, nevermind.

maybe posterior tilt?

Pakse

At the point where I feel my hips rotate. I imagine it as the tail bone flipping up. Is this not supposed to be happening?

That's the term - posterior tilt.

Tomorrow I take my potential future car to my mechanic to see if it's acceptable.
Hopefully talk to the truck driver's insurance company, and hopefully convince them that driving over my car constitutes reckless driving.
Check on how my insurance company is dealing with getting my car out of the lot it was towed to, and into a final resting place. They think they can get it done without it costing me anything...but we don't know yet.
Find out if the South Africans are giving enough nukes to my work for us to, you know, work.
And go to a going away party for my favourity gym employee.

Tomorrow's a big day...lots of places to use some luck.
