I have been noticing this lately, too! I have always been a nail-biter, and lately on prenatals my nails have been growing nicely. Now that it is cooler, they are very dry and brittle. I notice my forehead was dry this morning, too. I hate it!! I have to get better at lotioning up after taking a shower every morning. But i hate dressing being all lotiony!

Definately. I usually have very long nails, and now they are just breaking off like crazy. I'm hoping that they will grow back because they are also brittle which are not like my nails.

I take a multi. I'm going to start taking EFAs again, maybe that will help? What's biotin?

Biotin: "Biotin is used in cell growth, the production of fatty acids, metabolism of fats, and amino acids. It plays a role in the Krebs Cycle, which is the process in which energy is released from food. Biotin not only assists in various metabolic chemical conversions, but also helps with the transfer of carbon dioxide. Biotin is also helpful in maintaining a steady blood sugar level. Biotin is often recommended for strengthening hair and nails. Consequently, it is found in many cosmetic and health products for the hair and skin."

like i said, i have found that it helps me... when i stop taking it i notice my nails become more brittle and my hair gets really dry... yet a good friend of mine was taking it also and didn't notice much diff...

Yep... The second it starts getting cold out, my nails are gone! Plus it doesn't help that I am now biting my nails again from stress and nervousness. Long live midterms and projects and more books to read than I can shake a stick at! :yucky:

I take silica and I think it has greatly improved my nails. They actually grow and no longer peel. I also use coco / shea butter all winter on my skin..

I take biotin, so maybe this is a phase I'm going through. I take 5mg of it. I have been slacking off though on my vits, so I think I'm going to get back into that.

The fish oil really helps with my nails and skin during the winter. They both grow like crazy since I have been consistent with taking the 6 grams/day.
