well, some good news: no spinal issues, no spina bifida or anything like that, an no gastroskesis or omophacele... but I may have vasa previa, where the blood vessels supplying the placenta are covering the cervix.
I'm going back in 4 weeks to take another look and see if it has moved... but If I do have this, I get to prob be on bedrest at 28 weeks and have a required c-section at 35 weeks. This is bc if I went into labour, the contractions would rupture the vessels, and the baby would bleed to death in a matter of minutes- before I could even get to the hospital. Yikes.
I am totally 100% fine with bedrest, early csection, etc. Whatever it takes to save the li'l one. Still incredibly freaky though, as the mortality rate can be as high as 100% if I go into labor without an immediate c-section.
On a better note, they were able to determine the gender, so it is written on a card and sealed in an envelope... to be opened Christmas morning!!! :)

Glad to know everything is OK with baby!
Do you have complete or partial placental previa? A friend of mine had complete placenta previa at the beginning of the pregnancy. However, the placenta can move as the pregnancy progresses and can eventually migrate away from the cervix which is what happened for her. So with any luck yours will move away from the cervical opening as well. Keep us updated!

Thanks!
well, the doc said vasa previa, which I googled and it's a little different- just the blood vessels, not the actual placenta are blocking the cervix. From what I have read, vasa previa is a little bit riskier. I think they want to see my though again to see if it moves, like you said.

 Gee maybe if I had read it a little bit more slowly I would have caught that!
At any rate, I'll be praying for ya!

I was thinking of you today. Glad baby is fine. Bed rest will suck but thank goodness for mordern medicine, 20 years ago and you would have never known. Did they figure out why your AFP was high? I can't imagine it would relate to the Vasa but who knows.

yeah, the doc said he still was not sure and sometimes they just never find out. They did do a blood test today I think to test liver enzymes or something which can be a reason the AFP is higher.
Thanks for thinkin of me! And yup- lucky we have good prenatal care and good insurance! :)

thanks again everyone for the responses. :)
Yeah, I had to give my mom the card so I wouldn't peek. I still want to sneak over and look, but just like cheating on my diet, I know it's not worth it and I would only feel bad afterwards!

The majority of the time, that problem corrects itself, so I'm sure you'll be fine.
And what a great idea for a Christmas present!!!!!!!!
Colo, sorry if I'm missing something...haven't been keeping up-to-date on here lately :o ....did you have any symptoms to think there was origninally something wrong? How did you come to find out you had vasa previa?
