OK. I have a friend that is trying to lean out, and he is using protein shakes for a large amount of his protein intake. I told him that he really needs REAL food in there, except for PWO. However, I didn't have a good explanation....I do know that PP is fast absorbing. He says that he likes protein shakes and they are quick and easy. Soooo, could I have an intelligent reason to tell him otherwise?

I do this, though it's purely for convenience. I generally get at least four 50g shakes a day, to cover my protein base.
I also don't have troubles managing hunger and cravings, which are a big problem with liquid-based diets.
That said, if he can manage the practical aspects of it (being hungry, desire to cheat, etc), there's nothing inherently bad about it.

One of DH's friends was over last night and boasted that he is taking in 600g of protein a day! Most, if not all, from protein powders....

His friend is an idiot. There is no reason to have that much protein.
The only problem with powders is that they may not be as filling.

Did you tell him that you wouldn't mind wasting his cash for him. Heck, I'd do it. He doesn't hafta waste it that way. I'd be more than willing to help!!

I'm so happy to hear this. A large part of my protein intake comes from powder.

I woulda, but he is one of those guys that has worked out for many years and has taken a lot of juice. He is big and he knows it and figures he knows "everything". I have mentioned a few things to him in the past, but pretty much now, I just smile and nod....
