Okay...first off, Pinky wanted me to let everyone know that she recommended this site. So...Pinky...wth have you gotten me into??? LOL I am such a novice and this site is pretty overwhelming for me. I am definitely a newbie and need alot of patience and advice. Simply put, I am 5'2" and weigh 154.5 lbs. I was a college cheerleader and a hs gymnast, so this weight is totally unacceptable for me. Granted I am older, but I do not believe that is an excuse for weight gain.

I used to work out ions ago and just plain got out of it. I really would like advice on a good workout for fast results. I know it takes time, but I think you all know what I mean. My eating has improved alot, so now I need to step up with the cardio and strength training. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Thanks a bunch!!
Trish

Welcome

You've come to the right place. It might seem overwhelming at first, but if anything needs clarification, feel free to post up and ask. :)

Welcome :D

What are you doing in terms of training right now?

It's not that bad. No need to refer to yourself as a religious bovine.

Thank you both!

LOL...hmmm...nothing at all for the past year. I just quit working and started back at the gym on Monday. I went to a body pump class Monday and ran/walked the treadmill (3.75 miles) on Tues. I teach a Tae Bo class on Thursdays, but that is teaching, not my workout. I had been working with out local indoor football team as Ops Mngr, but owner skipped town, so now I am just doing some part time volunteer stuff. I used to workout alot more.

Basically, I pretty much now have all the time and free access to the gym, just no knowledge at all of what to do. I don't even know what amount of weight I should use. Talk about frustrating!!

Ok...well I'm gonna suggest you start by reading all the sticky's in the training and nutrition forums. Don't be afraid to ask any questions when you're done ;)

Okay...thanks! I read them earlier, but I wasn't real sure where to begin. <<And don't say at the beginning.>> :innocent:

I am sure I will have tons of questions, so just try to be patient with me.

Hey, good to see you here!

First step.... Forget everything you have ever learned about weight loss.

Light weights, low calorie and endless cardio, will not get you the body you are looking for.

The best advice I can give, in a nutshell, is:
- lift heavy, if you are not making a face or struggling to finish 8 reps, you are not lifting heavy enough. You will be surprised at how much weight you can actually lift.

- Make sure you are eating ENOUGH calories. For your weight, you will need to eat an estimated 1850 calories a day. I say estimated because everyone is different and this is just a quick calculation to figure out a starting point. (155 x 12) and may need to be altered, but I don't think you should go below this.

There is so much more, but I don't want to overwhelm you!

Don't be intimidated, we are all here for the same reason, no matter what our fitness level! :flex:

BTW, I LOVE Taebo. I used to do it 4x a week, but it seems to have phased out, I don't see any classes around anymore.

Hey there!! Thanks!! I have added food to my Nutrisystem as I could tell the cals weren't quite enough. But at least I am eating better food than I was before. Previously my cals all came from junk, so at least that has improved! So...the overall body workout in the sticky...is that where I should start?? I'm just hoping that I know how to do them.

and this

for exercise demo's

Since you are completely new....you could probably drop the first day (5x6) for a couple weeks, and space out the 2x15 and 3x10 days more...so maybe monday and thursday. And then add your cardio in on a couple off days.

Give it a couple of weeks to learn the exercises and adjust to the weights...and then do the full program, adding in the other day.

I'd like to caution you against looking for or expecting quick results, even though you said you know it takes time.

This is a lifetime thing. There's no rush and there's no deadline.

Paige...thank you!

Smuggie...No prob...I know it took a while to put it on, so it will take longer to take it off. I may not always like it, but I'll learn patience :)

PowerMan...Bring it on big boy...I have been working around big burly football players alot lately so, although they may not always have big words, they are usually without tact...I'm used to it...LOL!!

Thanks everyone!! I appreciate all your help and words of wisdom.

Yeah but when you combine the two you get an asshole of epic proportions.

Like, Beowulf epic.

Yeah that's right, I said motherfuckin' Beowulf. When's the last time you heard a tactless football player reference the original work of literature in the English language?

I'm gonna get all Grendel on that ass.

LMAO!! Probably never!! My ex is an NFL coach and he would be asking what Beowulf is, not who!!

Now I did just have one player imitate an FBI agent on the phone to our previous team owner recently after we found out he left town for good and left us high and dry with tons of bills. Scared him so bad he left the state and no one has seen him since...LOL!! Now the feds are after him again!!

Mind if I ask what team? I have just gotten into the NFL in the past 3-4 years. I can't wait for this season to start. For the past three years, I have participated in my DH's football pool at work and every year I have beaten my DH!! ;) But every year, I have also been one position out of the money! :censor:
