Question on protein powders?

Do they mix ok with hot liquids. I was thinking of trying it with coffee in my magic bullet for a hot mocha coffee drink. Would this be bad?

I have mixed whey in hot oatmeal, and hot chocolate before.

In all honesty, the one thing that keeps my protein from mixing well is when my shaker cup is still wet from the last time I washed it.

Just be aware that Whey can gell-up in heat, so it may go thick.

I put my whey in coffee- it does get clump a bit at first, but I keep stirring and it turns out fine.

I have to admit, when I first read this thread, I thought "hot protein powder"? Yew! :yucky: However, I had to just give it a try :lol:

Now, I'm a believer. I stirred chocolate mint pp into my coffee this morning and it tasted almost like a peppermint patty. Haven't had one of those in years, since I drink very little alcohol any more. Used to love them after coming in from x-c skiing, so now I know what I can have instead.

I just mixed mine right into my hot coffee with a spoon, no mixer or magic bullet. Mix a bit, let it sit for a minute, mix some more. I suppose how well it mixes in might depend on the protein powder that you are using.

I have had no problem with mine. I think it is like anything though. It is what works for you. I don't seem to be having any of these issues. Mind does not leak and works fine. If you decide to get one just buy it from a reputable store and keep the receipt. THis way if you don't like it just return it.

My take on it...

I prefer a blender.

BUT I also tend to make large batches of things. My morning smoothies, I make enough to last three days, which fills my blender. That way I can be a little more incherent and lazy in the morning and not have to make a new smoothie every day.

If you gravitate towards making foods/drinks on an as you go basis then the Bullet is great. It's all self contained, easy clean up (which is one thing I'll say is better than taking apart the blender all the time to scrub it), and stores well. But if you're like me and like to make larger batches of things for leftovers, then I say stick with a blender.

I use one of those Krups electric hand mixers and a pitcher..

Just throw in the water, scoups of pp and mix..
No mess, just rinse both and drink..

Besides , I never had an easy bake oven as a child so the magic bullet is fufilling that need.:funny:

The way I do it with hot coffee seems to work pretty well without getting that nasty clumpy paste....

Mix up your PP like a regular shake (using milk or water) to where it's the consistency of cream. Then just pour it into your hot coffee. That way you're not trying to mix it up dry into something hot.

And the iced version sounds yummy too! :)

I have done it before. And I bought a shake the other day at Tropical Smoothie Cafe with coffee in it. I watched the girl make it...she put whey protein, banana, PB, and instant coffee in it. I wasn't too sure about the instant coffee but it tasted great.
