This is an attempt to reduce the number of posts we get asking, "how do you do...," or "what's the difference between...". I'm sure it's not all-inclusive, and there may need to be additions.

Abs

Flexion:

1. Pulldown abs (http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=472224)

Halfway down the page.

2. Combat crunches

Lie on your back with a plate held behind your head.

Perform a crunch while simultaneously pulling the plate over your head until it hits you in the stomach.

You'll need to brace your abs to make sure to "catch" the plate with your abs.

This movement is supposedly good for martial artists since it trains them to brace their abs in anticipation of receiving a kick in the stomach.

3. Serratus crunches (http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=05-117-training)

Near the top of the page.

Hip flexion:

Lying pikes (http://ruggedmag.com/index.php?type=Article&i=8&a=5)

The author suggests bending the knees to keep the hip flexors from firing but I do them with my legs straight.

Rotation:

1. Med ball Russian twists and full contact twists (http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=459822)

All in the section entitled "Rotation."

Read the whole article for more ideas for ab movements and a description of the anatomy of the core.

2. Rainbows (http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=41031&tid=105)

You can do these with your knees bent at a 90* angle if they're too difficult as described above.

3. High-low cable woodchops (http://www.t-nation.com/readTopic.do?id=472224)

About halfway down the page. I forgot to mention this one in my original list.

Lateral flexion:

See the same article that contains the description for med ball Russian twists and full contact twists for a description of sidebends and Saxon sidebends.

1. Reverse cable sidebends (http://asp.elitefts.com/qa/default.asp?qid=33918&tid=104)

2. Cable sidebends are along the same lines except you hold the handle at the bottom.

Stabilization/compression:

See the same article that contains the description for med ball Russian twists and full contact twists for a description of pillar (prone) bridges, side (lateral) bridges, and dead bugs.

Cable front raise??
Is there a link to a video of someone doing the "cable front raise" in proper form? I was supposed to do that exercise this morning but couldn't figure it out so I just did a regular front raise w/dbs . . . I'm evidently supposed to straddle a cable machine with my back to the weight stack, attach a straight bar to the bottom hook and then lift the bar to the front of me--not allowing my body to move or the bar to touch me . . . it didn't say though what kind of grip, etc., and the only cable I could find low enough to the ground was a cable row machine, and I just didn't see how I could straddle that thing.??? Picture/video anyone?

I suggest completely passing on such a foo foo exercise. But that's just me. The anterior delts get enough work (and arguably too much) with all the shoulder and chest pressing people do. Adding in an exercise like this is a waste of time ... in my opinion.

Lol, Mark pretty much said the same thing. I realize it's "foo foo" but I'm still supposed to do it and I'm trying to be cooperative. I'm afraid I'm going to do something clumsy with the cable straddling it and such, so was hoping for someone to humor me with a video or picture of the proper form, but I think I'm going to email her and ask if I can just stick with the dumbbells as an alternative.

That is so exciting! I am learning that I thought I kind of knew how to work out but that is not so! I am learning that I don't know A LOT. Anyway, I was frustrated this morning because I was trying to work my chest and I didn't feel like I was doing much. These exercises and examples of the correct form are VERY useful. Thank you so much! I am not so frustrated anymore!

what are "flat 3/4 Dumbbell Flies"?? im confused as to whether it is starting with the dumbbells above my head and only go down 3/4 of the way, hence not going to 180 degrees, or am i only coming up 3/4 of the way and not having the DB meet back together? sorry - hopefully this makes sense, hahaha!!

thanks!!!

I think it refers to only going 3/4 of the way up, i.e. you go all the way down (emphasizing the stretch) but only comes up 3/4 of the way up before going all the way down again.

ok... so silly?? but ive seen two diff explanations (not on the board) on how to do reverse crunches and now im confused

are they where you drive ur feet towards the ceiling therefore raising ur hips off the floor

OR

are they where you slowly lower ur legs towards the floor???

what about the reverse crunch one???

Lie on your back. Grab something behind you with your hands for support.
Hips and knees at 90 degrees
Raise your hips up, bringing your knees towards your head.

Can be done flat, or on a decline (or would it be considered an incline )

Ok I don't know the rules for bumping old posts so don't get mad!...but I am confused as to how to do pull-throughs. I tried the link on the first page but it doesn't work anymore. I have watched 3 different videos and all 3 were done differently. :whut: Are my knees supposed to be bent? When I reach back through my legs how far back do I go?
