Well, usually when I get the weight on the bar I am asked "Are you going to squat that?" and I say "Yes" and they say "You do know the bar weighs 45 pounds right?" and I say "Yes" and they say, "That's gotta be over 200 pounds altogether you know"

And they look at me like I am a stupid girl and don't know what the f**k I am doing and I am going to kill myself.

Usually I then step under the bar and squat it, and then look at them, and by then they have a DISGUSTED look on their faces and they walk away.

It's not so much the comments that bug me I guess, it's the look that says "You are so gross for doing that" that bugs me.

I very rarely take sets of any exercise to a max.

Maybe 1-2 times in any given training cycle (my training cycles are generally 3-4 weeks)

Exactly what I was thinking. YOu are my hero!! I think it's awesome and totally sexy and hot that you can squat that much, (btw, I'm happily married ) and if squating 200lbs gives you a butt that looks like yours, then I'm so aiming for 200lbs.

everyone else is right, they are just jealous little boys.

WHY is it that if you eant to lift anything more than 20 lbs, most guys ask why?If you plan on being a PL? Now that I think about it, most girls in my gym think along these lines as well.
I actually used one of the female trainers as my exhibit A the other day when trying to explain to someone why if they only continued to lift 10 lb db's they would look like they lifted well.10 lb db's..she was rolling her eyes at me and I whipped around and said see..exhibit A..see how soft and squishy she looks.....lololol

 I luv you! You have the east and west perspective.

Squat away. But IMHO squats don't necessarily have to be done if you don't like em. So many other execises for legs.....................SPRINTING gives great hams and quads. Walking lunges, plain old leg extension and leg curls. It's all good. If you want to steer clear of squats for awhile, do it.

Really? I'm in Cowtown and don't notice that the girls are bad at the gym at all. If anything, they seem a bit... baffled by me, but I've never experienced any meanness or glares or anything.

Then again, I work out at a Y, which has its pros and cons. It's more laid-back, but also full of young kids. Less competition for the squat rack, though!

I know the gym envirnoment here varies greatly depending on where you go. BF works out at a Gold's and he said that's where a lot of the BBers are.

I'm going say that it's pretty safe to assume every gym is different, and not just in Cowtown, but everywhere. Most of the insecurity probably doesn't stem from the people giving the looks, it stems from the fact that I'm in a new town in a new gym and I'm not used to the members yet. Good to know people are generally nice :)

Wear an MP3 player and walk around looking pissed off. I've never once had someone comment on what I'm doing because of this.

A nice "f**k off" will work wonders too if someone has the balls to say something to you.

Seriously, if people are this rude to you when you're minding your own business and doing your own thing, then it may be time to get rude back.

Are you my twin separated from birth? Cause that's exactly the 'look' I have at the gym! It completely works, too. No one dares to mess with the pissed off muscley chick listening to Rob Zombie on her mp3 player.

Then again, I work out at a Y, which has its pros and cons. It's more laid-back, but also full of young kids. Less competition for the squat rack, though!

My Y is full of senior citizens. Which is RAD because all the good equipment is generally free!

Little old men check out my ass when squatting or doing DLs, but watcha gonna do? I'd rather get ript for my comp than worry about someone giving me the eye.

An ass like Chelsinators is the reason I squat. I want one like that!!! It rocks!!! and so far NOTHING else even comes close!! The sprints are for HIIT!
Ditto! Chelsinators ass is hot.

This is exactly what I do. I never get hit on either. The one time I did, was because the batteries in my MP3 player died, so I didn't have my headphones on. So now, even if the batteries die in the middle of my workout, I still keep them on.

I do the MP3 player thing too... I still get people coming up and talking to me...
I guess I should just stop acknowledging them when they point at their ears...pretend I think they have a twitch...

You could be a fat bald psycho blasting Slayer and deadlifting ridiculous weights.

But then you'd just be copping my style.

You obviously aren't bitchy enough. Try growling when people come near you.

But IMHO squats don't necessarily have to be done if you don't like em. So many other execises for legs.....................SPRINTING gives great hams and quads. Walking lunges, plain old leg extension and leg curls. It's all good. If you want to steer clear of squats for awhile, do it.

Keep squatting the big weights, Chels. You're my hero.

I had a 15 year old boy hit on me at the pop machine when I was getting a water. I put on my "don't f'ing talk to me look" and I didn't answer him when he tried is suave "hey baby, gotta boyfriend" crap. He called me a racist as his buddies surrounded me. I did something where I flexed sorta and they realized I could kick the shit outta any of their weenie teenie bopper asses and they left me alone.

A lot of guys don't know how to take a woman that's strong, especially stronger than they are when they aren't beastly grrr manly women.

So basically what really happened is that you were really intimidated by this guy, and then you slinked off quietly after they made fun of you for a few minutes.
