1) is this fish, bakeable? mom wants to stick it in a dish and bake it
2) she wants it to remain juicy - coat w/ olive oil?
3) flavor - can we just use blackening season and olive oil and rub the fish in it, stick it in a dish and bake?
thanks in advance

I love Tilapia fish.
IMO, it's better to cook it in the oven, and not for too long, depending how thick is the fish. When overcooked, they lose all the juicy taste.
You can use almost any flavor you want, and yes I put a little bit olive oil before putting it in the oven, so it doesn't stick to the plate.
So yummy with baked sweet potatoes sticks!

baking is the only way I have cooked it. The fillets I buy are thin and frozen- I thaw it in water, then cook for 9-11 mins at 425. From frozen, 11-13 minutes.
I usually sprinkle lemon pepper on them and spray the pan with Pam first.

THANKS! i think we're gonna try blackening seasoning if we can or some other spice. I'm not a huge fan of lemony fish - doesnt really ad flavor in my opinion

I broil it with garlic and herbs. Just a few minutes on each side.

Some show on the Food Network said that tilapia is actually one of the better fish for pan sauteing because it's more firm. It doesn't want to fall apart as much when it's cooked.

Strongchick, do you use a garlic paste and spread it on the fish? or do you use garlic powder? I'm a lame cook, so I'm a bit clueless. I've been using lemon, pepper, and dill on it but I've grown tired of it. Garlic and herbs sound so good.

I generally make a foil pouch and add 1T EVOO, garlic paste, and cayenne pepper. MMMMM. Open up the pouch for the last 5 minutes.

I sprinkle garlic powder or put crushed garlic on top. You can also put onion slices on top, and sprinkle with lemon juice.
Quite yummy.

I cook everything ahead of time, so I guess you could say all I eat are leftovers. :) It handles fine. I usually cook all the fish I need for a few days and take whatever I need day by day. Thank God for Rubbermaid!!!

I eat leftover salmon all the time. I just reheat in the microwave. Yummy! :) Just be sure not to over microwave it. I reduce the power on our microwave when reheating it. It takes slightly longer, but it tastes better.

I love talapia!
I do mine in my saute pan.
Spray with olive oil cooking spray or butter spray. Sprinkle garlic powder and mrs dash.
Spray skillet. If you leave the top off, it gets "blackened" and if you cover, it stays moister and doesnt brown as well. The mrs dash gives it a spicy taste.
Costco has nice THICK fillets. :)

halibut either way will work. :)
I eat Tilapia almost everyday. I saute it with lots of spices and a litte EVOO. It's very tasty. I get mine at Sam's Club. They come frozen and I thaw them in the fridge overnight. Enjoy!!
