View Full Version : Pain in my groin

I have been having this pain in my groin for about a week or more now, and it is getting worse.

As soon as I stand up from sitting, I get a sharp pain in my right groin. At first it just started out as a sharp pain, and then would be gone. Now, however, it seems like as soon as I put weight on my right legs, after standing up I get the pain and it keeps hurting for a few minutes, steps, afterwards. Doesn't hurt when I run, or work.

About a month ago, I stood up and something cracked in my hip and I got this shooting pain in my groin, and it wouldn't let up for a few minutes, couldn't move. But afterwards, it was ok. I have been noticing the pain, ever since then...

Not sure what it is, so I am not sure if I should be seeing a chiro, or going for massage or what. Any ideas?

No ideas, just wanted to send some well wishes your way. It's not easy to run after a toddler when you're in pain. Maybe you should call your primary care doc and see what he/she recommends.

is it nerve or muscle pain?

possibly a chiro. or a pain management specialist (an M.D.). you may get referred back and forth depending on diagnosis. sometimes someone who does MAT or ART may also be able to get the muscles that are tight and causing the nerve to be pinched to relax. if that's the root of the problem.

Is the pain in your hip flexor? If so, sounds like a Psoas issue - maybe siatica. You should definatly see someone! chiro or physical therapist.

yes, it is in my hip flexor. I thought it was from running, but I have been stretching the crap out of it and it is not helping. I had problems with my sciatica when I was pregnant, but it hurt down the back of my leg, not the front. I hate going to the chiro, not sure why, just find it a nuissance.

Stop stretching. I know it sounds wierd - but if, as it sounds like, it is your psoas, then you might be overstretching it. And you definately should see someone.

Sounds to me like it's your Psoas, though it may be your Iliacus as well. Particularly if it bothers you when you first get up from sitting and the first few steps you take. This is easily treated with massage. Though it can be uncomfortable to have it worked on. I doubt that overstretching is the problem, you probably have just developed a trigger point in the muscle. Good luck!

I have a massage already booked for Monday, I will see what she says. That is if I go. I just got some tattoo work done this past Tuesday, so by Monday, it will probably be flaking and scabbing pretty good. I am not sure she would appreciate rubbing scabs all over my back! :barf: I am hoping that it will be done flaking by then, so I guess we'll see. It is getting worse tho, I thought I could ignor it and it would pass, but I don't think that is the case.... :(

Try doing an internet search for "Trigger Point Therapy Psoas", my dh went through this and did manual trigger point therapy and is worked quite well. Sorry I don't have any links for you... however there is some great self treatment sites out there in cyberspace...

The nice thing about trigger point therapy is that it is easy to do yourself... and is pretty quick - no long massage or stretching sessions.

Hope this helps :)

I had close to the same thing happen to me about a year ago. I was lying in bed and sat straight up with my legs out in front of me...I heard a crack and then sharp pain. It went away but then I started having tightening in my adductor/hamstring area. I went to my chiro and he did ART on that area which sorted me out...I still get the tightening/pain after intense exercise but with stretching and using my foam roller or a tennis ball I am keeping it at bay. Good Luck
