View Full Version : CLA?!

First off, I know there's no magic pill. I'm friends with a guy that works at GNC and he gives me the scoop on products and what he hears from the pros that come in there to do demos. He says that a lot of people combine CLA with something else... I give him the ol' "there's no magic pill" routine and from what he's been told, it works for some people, and can't hurt to try. Are he (and the 'pros') that speak about this stuff in need of a lesson...?

The best lesson you'll take away from the pros is how they use their drugs.
That said...CLA seems to have some utility...if you go by the studies. In practice, it seems to have fallen flat.
It won't hurt you, but I have no idea how effective it'll end up being.

Even the studies show mixed results, and it's isomer dependent.

I have heard people say they had fat loss results when combining CLA w/ Borage Oil...is this what you were thinking of?
I still say diet and exercise are the best "pill" there is.

No, the best pill would be drugs.

Nor do I, but some people swear by it. Of course it couldn't possibly be because they have changed the foods they are eating and have added exercise to the mix..it has to be a quick fix pill.....

I took it for a while a about a year ago. Made me feel weird. An hour or two after I'd take it I'd get shaky and sorta paranoid. Figured that was a bad thing.

From CLA? I don't see how that was possible. Did the product also have a stimulant in it?

I honestly don't remember if it had stimulants in it. It was whatever brand Body for Life was pimping at the time. I'd take it. An hour later I'd get shaky kinda like when you work out and haven't eaten enough or something. 30-45 mins later I'd get paranoid. Then it would all just stop.

Well, I didn't have that sort of reaction, but I was taking it for a few weeks, and noticed a day or two after starting, I was getting that awful 'hungry' empty stomach feeling between every meal. Bad. Diet was the same, no increased expenditure. It was a gnawing feeling like I had to eat... and if it makes you overeat, kinda defeats the purpose. So after 3 weeks I stopped taking it and that feeling completely went away.

A teen that vastly outmatches you intellectually, and is a big enough dick to prove it.

Is this where you take the "holier than thou I'm older than you so I win" route because you can't keep up?
I mean, it wouldn't be the first time. I just take it as another way of saying that you give up because you can't actually bring yourself to say it.

I supplement with CLA due to the fact that I don't eat a great deal of red meat or use dairy products much anymore. There are studies that have been done that state that CLA can help in the fight against cardiovascular disease and many types of cancer. CLA works for me...

It seems to work for me, especially around the midsection. Its definitely not the diet and exercise that helps with that :p
