I know we've had these in the past but I've seen so much crazy stuff in the past two weeks I'm starting to think the trainers there are taking bets to see who can make their client do the craziest workout.:lol3: So...what did you se in your gym today (or yesterday or whenever)?...

Here are two, since 'functional training' seems to be the hip thing to do at my gym:

1. I saw one of the trainers standing on a bosu ball with the tension bands doing bicep curls with a medicine ball between his legs.

2. A guy was using the smith machine, but not in a way I've seen before. He had a stability ball and was using the smith machine to stabilize himself standing on the stability ball and then throwing a medicine ball back and forth with some other guy (who did not look amused and was standing on the floor). That was his workout. He got there after I did and left after that.

There was a gal doing "seated row" but instead of sitting upright and pulling (ya'll know how to row) she was pulling all the way back so that she was lying down on the seat/bench. Back up lean forward, rinse repeat.

:scratch: some kind of back exercise??

When benching I tend to try and find matching plates for each side of the bar, so I dont get any weird weight differences. If I cant find them, then I tend to make do.

But there is one guy who spends 10 minutes going around the entire gym, picking matching plates out.

So he can load the leg press.

You can stick 100kg on one side of it and it wont feel any different, but he has to spend a large proportion of his gym time looking for matching plates.

What is it with chicks and giant hoop earrings? We have 2 competitors and 1 non-competitor at my gym, who do the baseball-cap-ponytail -with-4"-hoop-earring look and it drives me batshit.

oh and i always see people using the bosu ball to do everything, people do rope press downs, bicep curls, squats... but they say it works your core right?
all the trainers at my gym always add the bosu ball to everyones program.

I see bad form at my gym all the time, but I guess one of the things that "bothers" me the most that I see all the time is poor lunging form. The trainers are right there watching their clients do them terribly yet don't correct it. :sad:

I haven't seen anything too laughable lately. :shrug:

I am with you on this cindy..it drives me crazy...It is all I can do not to say something.

The other thing I was telling Elizabeth yesterday---we have this trainer at the gym that always wears sweatshirts that say Personal Trainer on the back...now this is not something required by our gym either...:rolleyes:

I saw a 6 year old girl doing military presses with 5 lb dumbbells. A little boy using the incline bench as a 'slide' and another girl rolling around on her belly on top of the giant ball. Oh and later on a hot hunk with his shirt off on the bench. :naughty:

Oh, when I do go to the 'real' gym, though, I see all kinds of dumb stuff. I don't think I can pick out anyone doing anything with proper form. (Although, evidently I don't either. :lol3) Anyway, there was a trainer making this older lady (older in age and body....like 60 maybe) do Bulgarians with 30's in her hands. Her form was pitiful...bending over, bending over, and she was extremely unstable...like, I don't think she could even do them bodyweight if she tried. And here was this trainer standing over her making her do them. She kept looking at him like...can I quit, now, I can't do these...but he kept urging her to do more. :wth:

oh that drives me nutty too! As does full make-up! Along those lines, the most annoying thing I ran into at the gym recently was this guy yelling "Bonsei!" when he did his sets. :uhuh:

Dude doing shoulder shrugs this morning... 7 plates per side... using the cambered bar... broke the bar. It just sheared right off. :unsure: The noise was deafening as all the plates hit the floor. Everyone ran to the mezzanine railing to look down.

My two favourite stories:

1. Buddy working with his trainer. Doing slow-motion clean and press with 25-lb dumbbells while standing on the bosu ball. At the top of each press - *bang*, *bang*,*bang*.

I was uncharacteristically nice - he WAS, after all, a newbie.

So I waited until he finished his "set" and asked him to please control the weight and try to not smack the dumbbells together at the top of each and every rep.

He looked frightened and said "that's what my trainer told me to do".

So I looked at his trainer and said "do YOU mind if he doesn't smack his weights?" and went back to training.

Buddy wandered off to superset with the machine preacher curls or whatever the hell the idiot trainer (whom I outweighed by about 30 lbs) had him doing, then came back up to me and, while looking terrified of me, said "I'll try not to bang the dumbbells together but they're hard to control".

I suggested that if you can't control the weight, it usually means it's too heavy...

The rest of the gym patrons were HOWLING!



2. Renos at my gym, equipment moving all over the place. I asked the (skinny-fat, "I'm working on a spiritual outdoor yoga video with my boyfriend") attendant what all was being done with the power cage. She looked at me with that contemptuous look you get in high school from the popular girls and said, in a REALLY bitchy tone,

"Oh - I don't know WHAT they're doing with the ELECTRICAL".

:uhuh:

If she hadn't been such a bitch about it I would have let it slide. But she was SO snooty ...

...So I told EVERYBODY - the other staff, the patrons, her BOSS - it was great.

i had a 70's flashback today....this dude....prolly 40ish....with long ass curly hair(think wierd al), a head band, tube socks, piped shorts and a tank top was next to me on the stretching floor doing toe touches.....:bitch: i thought "let's get physical" by olivia-newton john was going to come on in the back ground....:funny:

and there is this one gal....ALWAYS at the gym....friggin lives there i think.....gotta be 60....runs all the friggin time.....for like 2 hrs every day....that is all she does.....except she does it in FULL ON makeup......thick foundation, black eyeliner, mascara, blush and the reddest hooker lipstick you have ever seen......she has jet black hair and she wears it in this crazy up do......it must take her an hour to get ready to go to the gym.....:pimpslap:

An oldy but goody from my journal.... there's one more funny story... I'll see if I can dig it up:


GYM STORY:

Ok, so I'm on my upright bike doing HIIT and situated to my left are treadmills, ellipticals, then stairmills. They're all facing a mirror so I can watch what everyone's doing without seeming like a :stalker3:

There's a dude on a treadmill maybe 8 feet away from me running intensely and every now and again emitting a strong sigh in fatigue. He looks like one of those dudes that runs a little faster when a girl walks by... he's maybe 5'7" or so... kinda skinny but muscular... not my type but he probably tries hard.

Anyway, I'm just finishing my third sprint when he busts out with some crazy shit....

First he did this:

I think they're a new "genre" of cardio bunny, therefore they warrant their own name). Anyway, she's "peddling" along, staring at herself intently in the mirror :cena: and she busts out with this:

Honestly, I see some of the craziest, most stupid crap EVERYDAY in the gym. From some chick wearing a snow hat while she trains to this guy who trains his chest (and only his chest) DAILY. I could write a book with all that I see. Somedays I have to stop myself because I lose focus and track of what I am doing because these people catch my attention. Must.stop.starring.

there is this guy who comes into the gym ... he does NOT lift weights ... he stands in front of the mirror and shadow boxes, kicks and does some weird flips. why do you need a gym membership to do that? :confused: plus he punches in time to the music, changes the songs all the time to get the song he wants and makes the noises when he does his "boxing".

there is this girl who holds the ball between her arms, grabs the cable and then does side twists with the ball while holding the cable. i've never figured out the point of that.

I visited a friend's gym yesterday to lift with him. I used to lift at this gym years ago. Lots of good things going on in there...and lots of bad things. Three things stuck out:

1) Apparently there has been a shortage of full-size shirts in my town. Very few guys seemed able to clothe themselves in anything that wasn't shrink-wrapped to their bodies. A very sad situation indeed. I honestly can only believe that XS was the only size available anywhere in town.

2) There was a guy intently watching me do cable crossovers (okay I'm :gay: for having done these). I would have been worried, but I had just seen him checking out a girl's ass, so I felt somewhat safe. When I got done, he asked me, "What muscles does that exercise work?" :blink:

3) Then we had the two fattest guys in the gym pounding away on the leg press, acting like Billy Badass. FYI: Never act like a badass over anything that requires a 5" ROM (the rule especially applies to sex :lol3: ). They then proceeded to step up and be real men on the smith machine.

Saturday I saw a girl toy around with squats in the 500's. Guys toy around with squats in the 800 and 900's.

I saw RDL's off of blocks with 400-500 pounds.

I also saw a big part lion/part lab dog asleep in the corner on top of MY bag. When you rub his belly he gets so relaxed he farts, but if you stop he growels at you until you keep rubbing.

I also saw a nosebleed during a squat (900x3) that would have made the entire cast of Grey's Anatomy shit bricks.

While I'm stetching I can look into the step class. There is ALWAYS this woman, 40's decent shape, dressed and made up like a cast member of The Firm videos.(remember those?) She is doing step class like she is on a Broadway stage. All dramatic, perfect moves. It's like she is doing a performance rather than a workout. Hard to describe. But always entertaining.:lol3:

One guy around 50s, tall, slender, while jogging on the treadmill, will raise up his arms in a "Praise The Lord" kind of way. Does this every 3 minutes or so. This movement is interspersed with him holding up one arm in the air and swinging it around, sorta like he is trying to lasso something, with his finger pointing up.

He concerns me, and I keep an eye on him at all times. :uhuh:

There is this tall, beautiful girl, in decent shape, that wears entirely too much eye make-up. She has the worst posture in the world. I can't stand to even glance at her while she's doing her cardio. Whether it's running or "ellipticalling" she is hunched over like an old woman with osteoporosis (sp?).

Than there is this lady, maybe in her 70s. The kind of woman that has her hair styled once a week and wears pretty warm-ups. I love to watch her get on the stepper. It is like nothing I've ever seen. She steps down-and-up with one leg...pauses...down-and-up with the other leg...pause...over and over. She is so graceful doing this crazy stepping action that it looks like a dance.

I saw a whole bunch of what would be the kiwi equiv of "frat boys" squatting away on the smiths machine. And a moderately attractive young girl, who came in, did the Xtrainer for about 20min, then performed Db rows with around 2kg (4.4lb) and then left.

It's rare! Heck, she wears her tube scrunchy socks over her tights, and the shirt is a tad too big for her...But I just love the lady... we talk all the time. She even wears her lifting gloves! Gotta love those women.

Usually though I see all the ladies with the big hoop earings and tons of makeup. And the guys who never work their lower body :crazy: Chest, shoulders, back that is what they do.

ohhhh when I working at the gym Id see overweight girls come in, ask for a protein smoothie--(which I calculated approx 125g carbs, 80% sugar and over 700 calories) then sip while walking on the TM.

2 guys, mid twenties, wearing oversized white sweatsuits and their caps on sideways arrive with one chick wearing super-tight pants, a puffy jacket, lots of makeup and huge hoop earrings.

She watches them workout while sitting on the benches and snapping her gum.

The best day EVER for me was when this totally hot guy with KILLER pecs came in and did cable crossovers in a muscle shirt.

That thing looked like it was under some serious tension - but wait! It gets better!

Buddy decided he wasn't getting a good enough view of the pex - so he peels his shirt up over his head, then goes back to doing the crossovers in front of the mirror.

I was pretty impressed, especially when I could not help but notice the crazy vascularity of the one guy, all across his forearms, huge pump happening. She asked them to stop flapping their gums, finish their set, and get moving cause she would be needing it in about 2 minutes. They were very nice to me and got their set done. :hehe:

The same guy today spent about 10 minutes wandering around looking for matching plates for his leg pressing. He spends very little time in the gym actually doing anything, but lots of time wondering around looking for shit.

I have started to use the plates he likes for my benching. What I should do is take exactly 1/2 of the plates and use them for bench, as that would create an uneven number and screw him up on his leg pressing

On a cute note, I used to see an older couple (60s maybe). The husband was blind, and the woman would lead him around and set his weights for him.

Same guy went to incline benches, took the bar waay down to his lower chest, with the chest/ab area caving to get it there. He did a few reps and then only just managed to lock the weight out, and by just, it took him 3 odd seconds to do it. So what did he do... tried another rep.
When he failed he placed the bar on his chest, regripped and tried to dump teh bar on tiny little supports (dunno waht they really are for) by shoving with his whole body. unfortunately the incline rack aint bolted down, so all he managed to do is shove the entire thing almost into the line of exercycles.
He finally rolled it down and dumped the bar on the floor.

Sweaty girl - She sweats thru cardio and stuff, sweats more than anyone I have seen. I am just glad that she stopped wearing the brown lycra that allowed visible wet patches. Chicks with huge wet patches between their legs are only attractive to the Pee freaks

Okay, so this was yesterday, but I saw this clearly clueless woman "instructing" her daughter on the hip ab/adduction machine with the knee pads in the exact opposite position that they're supposed to be in. :funny:

I also saw a woman using the ab rocker bench. She was holding on to the handles and lifting herself up through the handles instead of rolling up with the head and elbow rests in place. :hehe:

I was doing some treadmill today, and during my session I got to see another pretty cute girl doing crosstrainer. But unfortunately, she was relatively long limbed, and Xtrainers do not really suit anyone with limb lengths that are at the outer edges of the standard curve. the poor girl was wobbling all over the place, going up and down, back and forwards etc.

It was hard not to laugh

Let's see if I can describe this properly.

This guy is there a lot when I'm working out. You always know he's there because you can hear him from the other side of the gym. He loads 8 plates on the bar (but doesn't use clips to hold them on) and sets the catches (stop bars, you know what I'm talking about, right?) on the power cage in about the 4th slots from the bottom. Oh, I forgot to mention that he puts the sissy pads on the catch bars and then sets the BB on top of them. This helps to deaden the sound (slightly) when he picks up the BB about 4 inches and then just lets it drop back onto the sissy pads. Over and over and over. I have no idea whatsoever what muscles he's trying to work. That 4 inch range of motion doesn't seem to be enough to accomplish anything other than proving to everyone around him that he can lift something really heavy for 4 inches and drop it back down with complete lack of control.

He is quite possibly the most annoying man in the weight room.

I don't know how I missed this thread before, but I'm sure you can imagine how many gay things I see in my gym every day. :rolleyes:

The one that's really got me going at the moment, though, is this new machine that they've come out with. It's a thing where you can stand on it, and the two platforms under your feet move up and down slightly, in alternate cycles, creating a sort of vibration through your body. It's really nothing more than a variant of the old "belt wiggler" machines that used to be all the rage back in the 70s.

Anyway, one got installed in Stel's new gym and they're charging people $5 to stand on it for ten minutes. Not only is it a worthless POS, you have to pay extra to use it.

And this isn't all. There's an underground mall near my office, and when I was walking through there the other day I saw that this machine company had rented out one of the spaces and installed about 20 of these machines in it. They had signs up showing how you could work your arms (by kneeling in front of the machine and placing your hands on the platforms), calves (by sitting in a chair in front of the machine with your feet on the platform - I guess STANDING on the platform somehow DOESN'T work your calves), etc. Again, charging money for people on their way to work or whatever to use these things.

Thankfully, I saw only one clueless moron being separated from his money in there. The other 19 machines were just sitting. I hope this company loses a buttload of money trying to market this crap. :angry:

There is also a nice trend happening at my gym. Its officially autumn now, but hte weather is still nice. But this summer/autumn, the trend for the girlies is to wear little tiny shiny shorts.They look like satin boxers to me, but they are nice and short, and most often you get a nice wee cheeky look happening as the butt starts to appear under them.

We have this new guy... small little man, maybe middle aged. He comes in a few days a week, picks up one of those stretching mats and brings it over to the weights area - he wedges it between a flat bench and one of the mirrored support pillars, takes off his shoes, raises his arms over his tiny head with 10 lbs dumbbells in his hands, and proceeds to make a tiny tiny bicycle motion with his hands while counting "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,2,3,4,5..." repeatedly. Yesterday he did this for about an hour, the entire time that I was there.

The most baffling part is why he takes his shoes off... to lay on the floor bicycling his hands...

Yep, it's been around since.. err let's say 2002 ? In my previous gym I paid extra to use it as I heard good things about them. But most times I just didn't have time left to use it, as the gym was closing right after finishing my WO in the morning (they closed from 12-16hrs).
It works pretty good as a post-WO massage of worked muscles.

One of the few things that go from Europe to the US instead of the other way round.

Eh, I don't bother talking to people in the gym - mostly because I get annoyed and distracted when someone tries to talk to me so I figure the same is probably true for others.

I saw a girl doing weighted pull-ups today. The only girl I've ever seen do unassisted pull-ups, much less weighted. She was ripped, great figure and tons of definition in her back.

I also saw the usual stuff, including a girl about my size doing surprisingly heavy upright rows with questionable form... I cringed inwardly a bit. But I suppose not everyone has shoulder issues like me.

Oh, and a guy doing cable tricep extensions-- set on the heaviest weight with tons of those little 2.5lb and 5lb add-on plates. For an impressive, grunting, 1/4 (and that is being generous) ROM.

She had the cable in a high position, she was facing away from the stack in kind of a split-squat position, hanging from the cable and kind of rocking up and down. Looked for all intents and purposes like a weight-assisted split squat.

Scenario: about 3 people in the gym today. Not crowded at all. Multiple benches open, etc. etc.

Here I am doing my flat DB presses on a bench. When I'm done with the set I put the dumbells down and proceed to the water fountain during my rest interval. 30 seconds later I come back to get to my next set and there is this lady using my bench. She has moved my dumbells and my paper/pen and she is doing freaking tricep kick-backs. What the HECK!? This is just rude and it annoys the crap out of me!! There were several other benches available!! I don't GET IT! She did have a smoking bod but that is no excuse. :finger:

I've done that with cardio machines, too (I went to go sign up for it and someone stole it while I was gone!). I don't even care if I come off as snarky because they're the ones who are being rude.

Ok, I have a rant. This really ticked me off....

Scenario: about 3 people in the gym today. Not crowded at all. Multiple benches open, etc. etc.

Here I am doing my flat DB presses on a bench. When I'm done with the set I put the dumbells down and proceed to the water fountain during my rest interval. 30 seconds later I come back to get to my next set and there is this lady using my bench. She has moved my dumbells and my paper/pen and she is doing freaking tricep kick-backs. What the HECK!? This is just rude and it annoys the crap out of me!! There were several other benches available!! I don't GET IT! She did have a smoking bod but that is no excuse. :finger:

So as I see her using my bench I walk in front of her view (as she's watching herself in the mirror) bend down and pick up my dumbells, move to the next bench. I wasn't in the mood to fight but it really pissed me off. I slammed my dumbells around and tried to be loud! :lol:

When she was done she comes over to me WHILE I'm in the middle of a set, gets down in my face and says "ok sweetie I'm done." I seriously wanted to bite her. :dry:


I hear ya! This almost happened to me yesterday...but luckily for that guy he didn't move all my stuff.

On another note, same subject, there is this chic that really pisses me off - and she isn't even bothering me. I can watch her from the messanine (sp) while I am doing my cardio on a spin bike. She is doing a circuit on the regular floor (there is a circuit room too), and is doing something like 10-15 different stations. She will kick anyone off the station that she goes to next before she gets there! And it usually happens three or more times per circuit that she does. She really thinks her sh** don't stink. Her hubby is the same way. Drives me freaking nuts. I want to go down and :bitch: her!

ETA : and she doesn't even put any weights away! :bitch:

Just remembered another thing-- I got stuck waiting for the cable station yesterday. The guy who was using it must've been doing a full-on 'triceps' day, entirely on the cable machine. Like 9+ sets of various triceps exercises. It took forever. Grrrrrrr.

I'd pay good money to go to a gym that only had 10-15 members. Haha.

She wears them pulled up right to her belly-button so you get a nice peek of lower ass. thanks! Not only that, but she is always on the step-mill doing what is clearly an ass workout. This might not sound that bad, but the thing is, when she's on that machine I can seriously see straight up into her uterus. I try not to look but it's just so unbelievable, I can't help it! I want to tell her, "Look, lady, I am coming closer than I EVER wanted to to being able to see what your gynecologist sees. PLEASE, have mercy, and let those shorts ride a little lower. "

Also, in the locker room I watched a girl, wearing booty shorts and a sports bra, brush her hair into a ponytail for like 5 minutes. When she walked out of the bathroom I watched her look around to see who was checking her out. Too bad there was hardly anyone there! Poor thing. She should come at more crowded times.

Speaking of which, I love the little muffin-tops who like to workout on the elliptical machines with their shirts off. Cute little sports bras! it's like watching a Barbie workout video. Meanwhile I'm on the treadmill looking like a freak show doing HIIT in my rank, pitted-out old t-shirts, running like a woman chased by demons. Who will look hotter by summer, huh??? Tell me!

So I'm walking upstairs to the cardio area and I want a bike, but the only one open is right next to this dude on his cellphone. So I :rolleyes: and sucked it up. I go over there and start doing my HIIT and he's gabbing away about this and that... Then he starts talking about how he's going to take a bunch of niacin tomorrow and go into the steam room to detoxify. Again, I :rolleyes:, thinking he was even more of a schmuck. Then he starts talking about how his sponsor won't find out, and how it's really hard to stay sober and he is sober "for the most part". Then he starts saying "I know we don't really agree with Scientology, but they have one of the best rehab programs".

At this point, I'm thoroughly amused. Keep in mind, the entire time, he's going like 40 rpm on the recumbant bike. Then, all of a sudden he gets up, walks across the room to another recumbant bike, and resumes his conversation.

Part of me was really sad to see him go because I was so entertained!

My buddy GMs an LA Fitness up the road from my apartment, and I joined a few weeks ago to have an alternative to the gym I work at. Plus, it's close to the house so if I ever want to do morning cardio (yeah right) I don't have to go very far. The weekend I joined, it was pretty dead, and I was happy when I saw that they had two squat racks and a power cage. I figured that it would never be a problem getting a place to squat since most people don't seem to do it.

My first time in there in the evening, I'm making my way back to the power cage and I'm noticing that there are lots of groups of guys working out. You know... the guys with the air lats that workout in groups of at least three. As I get in sight of the squat racks and power cage, I found that ALL of them are taken by these groups and they're ALL doing bicep curls. WTF??? :bitch:

I have seen this guy twice now...same outfit...WHITE overalls but not worn up...they are hanging down on the front but still clipped together.. With a wife beater on and BLACK cowboy boots. I thought last time he was wearing some karate outfit...but I got a closer look today...:lol:

he wasnt using much wt.. maybe 40lbs.. I curl more than that. :hehe:

But speaking of unsolicited advice. If it came from someone that i knew had good form and what they were going, I'd be so appreciative. When i first started training, what did i know.

Guessin not everyone feels like that tho.

It is hard to not say something. In that ones guys case squatting and his back "bending" he even had a belt on. Just made me rub my weak back. I couldnt watch. I was so affraid he was going to hurt himself.

I almost forgot about this:

The other day I was doing pull-thrus in one of the cable cross-over machines (our gym has 2 right next to eachother). There were only 3 other people in the entire weight room. Some guy doing weird shoulder things with a 5lb plate and a guy showing his girlfriend how to do something on the Smith machine.
Anyway, when I do the pull-thrus I grab the handle and walk forward a few steps to put enough tension on the cable so the weights don't hit bottom. So, when I am doing the movement I am only a few feet from the opposite end of the machine. (I hope this makes sense). In the middle of a set this guy decides to walk in front of me in order to get to the other cable machine. Now, there is only about 2 feet in front of me so when he walked by my head hit him in the ass. I was so pissed! :mad: I said "What the fuck?!" He just ignored me and kept on walking. Why on earth would you do something like that? The cable machines are right in the middle of the room, so you can easily go around them on any side and there was no one else anywhere near me. :sad:

I saw a girl yesterday doing dumbbell bench presses with 3 pound weights. They were metal (not pink!), and she was clinking them together LOUDLY at the top with every rep. I so wanted to tell her she was just wasting her time, but I bit my tongue.

I saw a girl like that at my gym on Wed. She did bench press, triceps kickback and curls with dumbells less than 5 pounds - I was thinking - her purse probably weighs more!

There is an old man I see every time I go to the gym - he is old and hunched over and has one of those walkers with the wheels on them and he walks laps on the track.

There is another guy I have seen a couple times that I saw this week - he is probably in his 50's and the stuff he does with the dumbells just doesn't make sense. He is holding maybe 10 pounds or so (maybe less even) and holding them like you would for a hammer curl, but he's just sort of taking turns flailing each arm upward??? Looks weird. I have seen a few older men doing stuff like that with dumbells and I always want to ask them what they are trying to do??

There is another man in his 40's-50's who is overweight with a gut and he always has this brace-type thing that you hold/strap across your chest that supports your arms out in front of you as you do for a preacher curl. I haven't really seen him doing anything else except curls with the brace-thing with the pre-loaded weight bars. He saw me setting up the bench to bench-press and immdiately said to let him know if I needed a spot.

Trained late last night, and there ended up only being 5 of us in the whole place. I'm on the bike in the cardio area, and across the gym I see two guys piling plates on the bar in the power cage. Then they pile on some more. And some more. :uhuh: So, finishing up my cardio, I think, I gotta check this out. :popcorn:

So I go to the stretching area near the racks, and kinda pretend to be stretching, to stall for time, to watch this performance. Dude is no more than 5'9 tops, probably in the mid 180's and he's going to squat 500lbs. :shock: (well, 495 i guess). Now, ppl lift heavy stuff at this gym but this was the first guy I've seen with knees wrapped and using chalk. He managed 2 reps with maybe a 4" ROM, but I give the guy credit for trying. Then I stopped faking my stretches and went home to iron my toga.

What is it with chicks and giant hoop earrings? We have 2 competitors and 1 non-competitor at my gym, who do the baseball-cap-ponytail -with-4"-hoop-earring look and it drives me batshit.

I wear my hoops when I'm training. It's because they're ultra expensive, white gold hoops that were a gift from my boyfriend. I wear them every day and know I'd forget them or lose them if I took them off. :uhuh:

He's bathed in a bottle of cheap cologne. He's got his ipod, with the earbuds slung over his shoulder because he's on his phone the whole time.

I think I saw him do three or four sets total, all different exercises. Each set, he's counting his reps out loud. Not quietly either.

After each of these sets, he strolls around the gym (apparently it's like scent marking in the animal kingdom, he had to spread his god-awful stink everywhere). He makes a trip to the drinking fountain, takes a sip, yet in his hand is a full water bottle. He stops to talk to the cardio bunnies. He stops to talk to the one gal on staff there. He stops to admire himself in the mirror. He stops to make another loud phone call. Then he proceeds to load up weights for a different exercise, different muscle group, to do one set of that and start his laps again.

This was yesterday. There's four of us in the gym. Me, two cardio bunnies, and Captain Cologne. He's wearing a t-shirt with the sleeves pegged and rolled up, blue jeans, and loafers. He's bathed in a bottle of cheap cologne. He's got his ipod, with the earbuds slung over his shoulder because he's on his phone the whole time.

I think I saw him do three or four sets total, all different exercises. Each set, he's counting his reps out loud. Not quietly either.

After each of these sets, he strolls around the gym (apparently it's like scent marking in the animal kingdom, he had to spread his god-awful stink everywhere). He makes a trip to the drinking fountain, takes a sip, yet in his hand is a full water bottle. He stops to talk to the cardio bunnies. He stops to talk to the one gal on staff there. He stops to admire himself in the mirror. He stops to make another loud phone call. Then he proceeds to load up weights for a different exercise, different muscle group, to do one set of that and start his laps again.

I got a little freaked out tonight at the gym.

I was on the treddy, and there was this older man in front of me on an eliptical. (to give a better pic, he is in front of me, but I can see the side of him {why can't I get the words for that :ban3: }...anyways, he looks over at me, and at that moment, I was looking around and he caught my eye. He smiled. Then he kept looking over at me and watching me run. I just thought he was an older guy checkin out a younger chick, no biggie.

But then he finished up, got the paper towel and cleaner and started cleaning the machine. He spent, no word of a lie, 10 minutes rubbing the stupid thing down. He was now facing me and stroking(you all know what this looks like, right?) the handle bars, watching me and smiling. I am so darn sure that he had a hard on (not that I was looking :bitch: ) I was totally freaking out. He kept doing this. He would redo the handles over and over again. I was :scared:

I saw a guy on the stepmill slowly keep losing his fight with staying at the top and ended up on the very last step, with his arms holding on the handrails for dear life and legs going as fast as he could to not fall off but alas he did and of course immediately looked around to make sure nobody was watching :funny:
The really bad part was I was almost the next victim of that evil machine :sad: :lol3:

I obviously didn't have enough coffee this morning because I motioned to him and asked him to "pull it out and show her". He and Ileen both burst out laughing at me. :oops: :o

Two treadmills to my left, there's the skinny fat cardio bunny (ponytail bouncing like crazy and all) smacking, popping, and literally blowing bubbles with her gum.

Two treadmills to my right, an older guy, probably weighing in around 250, hacking and coughing like a cross of pneumonia and emphysema. I think he only had the tready set at like 1mph too.

I had my headphones in, watching tv, and I could STILL clearly hear the stereophonic oral disgust twins. :sick:

Sunday when I was training in another gym that I sometimes go to, since they have a real (albeit tiny too small ledgers) squatrack and plate-loaded leg press plus more room, there was absolutely the fattest guy I ever saw in a gym.
I was actually happy to see it happen. When I spoke to him and told where I was training normally, he said that the gym was too cramped and tiny for him.
Makes you realize that while we often complain about how obese folks don't train yada yada, they have problems as soon as they do want to move because everything is made for smaller people.
Good there are places with more old-fashioned equipment that allow both very small and large folks to train.

Other weird thing I saw yesterday. It was me! I did the absolute dumbest thing imaginable. Trying to front squat a weight that I couldn't clean (there's no squat rack in our gym), and since there was a guy in the free wts area doing upright rows (with a barbell, how stupid!) I tried to clean it from a single bench elsewhere. And the 35kg bb dropped on my knee. Now I have a bum knee and have to skip next leg workout :(

It still amazed me how I could clean 35 kg so easily past Thursday and then suddenly couldn't even get it up 5 days later. Reason was probably that back then I'fd nearly eaten 1800 kcals for just 1 day and now I'd had 2 days in a row of 1300-1400 kcals . Big difference in calories. Big difference in strength.
I wished I had plate mates of 500g each then I could go up with 1 kg each time instead of a whopping 2.5 kg.

Well Ya know, it didn't take him overnight to get that fat... yes, great for him to get in there...but he doesn't need to be using any machines, his bodyweight in itself would be suffice, IMO.

I'll bet when she gets on an airplane, she only takes up HALF the seat. She should be forced to pay double the price because she's so teeeeeny that technically, she's taking up space that a regular sized person could use. She's so teeny tiny and non-sweaty. How can she go out in public like that? I mean, isn't she AWARE that she's that teeny tiny? I'd be all like "Why don't they have a "teeny people only" section at the gym? Cable rows while kneeling on top of a stability ball. This was my fitness director working with a client. I'd say that 80% of the training he does with people requires some form of stabilization to (as he tells them) activate the core and burn more calories. It's soooo hard to keep my mouth shut sometimes.

I GOT MY FIRST DISGUSTED LOOK IN THE GYM TODAY!!! :yahoo:

Well the first one i've actually seen i guess... I had a refeed yesterday so i had a hellacious pump going on today after doing upper body ( i had on one my little tanks, so i was kinda showin off too :))... so much so that when i saw myself in the mirror even I said "damn i look like a cartoon" :lol:

it was then that i caught this girl looking at me. she was with two other guys who were looking and smiling and she had this look of disgust on her face ( you know the one where you crinkle your brow, snarl your lip and your jaw drops, but you just can't look away) I Just turned and smiled at her..... Damn that felt good.

I caught her a couple more times too :lol: Must be doing something right :lifter:

Oh and i saw a girl fall asleep for like 30 minutes on the ab mat after doing 40 minutes of cardio. (jen ;))
