Both. It seems strange that the frozen ones would be cheaper, but they usually are. However, I can't resist fresh berries. I also buy dried blueberries a lot and put in oatmeal and protein muffins.

Strawberries - fresh; blueberries - frozen. Frozen blueberries are juicier for in my oatmeal! :yum:

If they are in season, I buy them fresh. Right now strawberries are and it's wonderful! Otherwise I buy the frozen.

Frozen. I also freeze veggies/fruit from the summer/fall and have them for all year long. :yum:

Frozen, I like making snack shakes with them.

Orange juice, ice cubes and frozen fruit. Yummy.

But, fruit smoothies with a bunch of frozen fruit give me killer gas. Dirtbikes and motorboats and all that jazz. Like when you let air out of a balloon but you pinch and stretch the opening a bit, make it go "weeee-woooooo-weeeee-wooooo."

Tickles a bit.

I usually have strawberries, blueberries, cherries, peaches, peas, green beans, corn. :yum: Sooooooooo much better than the store stuff. We don't grow enough strawberries...even if you have to go to a farm ...well worth it if you have a freezer.

SaraH - thanks for the reminder... After seeing your post I remembered to write Cherries down on my grocery list. I've forgotten to purchase them for weeks now.

We grow some, and my neighbor has three apple trees, and I cook down and freeze applesauce. We go to the mountains to pick blueberries, and our best friends have a lot of property with raspberries and blackberries. You're right, even some farmer's markets have great deals.

So yummy. Yep, my in-laws help with this stuff. He has the apples and blueberries...and my dad has raspberries. I'll have to do that next year with apples. I love apples!! :yum:

Frozen as fresh is hardly ever really fresh and very expensive too. Plus, there's a weird thing about fresh strawberries: give me itches all the time. The hairs or the mold? Anyone else having the same problem? Not so for jam or frozen berries!

This garden talk reminds me of when I still lived on the farm. We had lot of own produce from the veggie garden (beans, potatoes, berries) and from the trees: apples, cherries and walnuts. Miss those days, though at times it was a lot of work. Also quite pissed I was unable to rent a very tiny house with a huge veggie plot behind it! Would have loved to grow fruit & veggies the.

For smoothies and oatmeal, frozen.

To eat plain, fresh. But only when they are in season. Right now they are mega-$$$ and NOT even very good.

I buy fresh strawberries, we get them year round good price. A man from our Church gives us several gallons of jumbo wild blueberries every year. I just bag and freeze and thaw as needed.
