I was wondering this purely lifting here. How long does it take you from the time you start lifting to the time you finish?

Just lifting, no warmup, cardio, or anything like that...

Usually 45 minutes.

Add in the rest and I'm there nearly 2 hours at times.

No less than an hour.
I can usually be out the door in 60 min.
As long as it doesn't become social hour! :uhuh:

What are you doing in that time?

MichelleS
03-16-2007, 07:06 PM
yes it takes that long

half the time I have to wait for the crack heads to stop curling in the squat rack.

MichelleS
03-16-2007, 07:07 PM
I watch all my rest sets too. I must be doing something really wrong then.

Steve
03-16-2007, 07:07 PM
I would be changing gyms.

Blondell
03-16-2007, 07:07 PM
You need to have them move or ask to work in. That's a long time to be there just lifting.

You can't beat a free gym. :shades:

If a workout takes that long, you're not training. You're making friends.

If someone is on your equipment, improvise.

I'm making friends with my water bottle and iPod  I don't talk to people while I'm there.

I improvise when I bench or do rows but I'm not going to do squats on te smith cause some prick is doing curls.

I have asked to work in with some and they look at me like I'm a jerk.

Its even worse when I have to wrok in with Chris cause he has not since of rest sets. :uhuh:

I'm usually in there for 45-50 minutes as well max.

I would ask the guy to move to another spot to do his curls. You don't need a squat rack for curls while you do need one for squats.

Usually takes me aroudn 45 minutes.

Typically, a 15 minute warm-up, and about an hour of work (including spotting and loading for training partners) and then 10-15 minutes of stretching after.

Shirted workouts (when we have 4 or 5 of us in shirts at a time) it takes about an hour and 20 to get our work done, not including the warm-up and stretching.

Geared squatting workouts (changing weights on the mono, getting gear set, rest between sets, etc.) squatting alone takes an hour or two, then another 20 minutes getting everyone out of their suits, then on to accessories.

About an hour for me.

MichelleS

Why is it so bad that its longer then an hour to workout.

Cortisol is the standard reason, over an hour of exertion and your body floods itself with cortisol to combat stress and it is catabolic.

IG has worked out for over an hour, 4 days a week, for the last 3 years and we seem to be doing fine.

Aaron will probably show up with a graph and prove me wrong, but I'll love him anyway.

Same. 45 minutes. Some days...depending ON my workouts, I can get the lifting part done in a half hour.

MichelleS

Is this more geared to when you are dieting to train for only 45 min.

Seems to me that I can't get everything done in that amount of time.

The further I get into my dieting, the shorter my lifting periods are. I start doing more circuit style training as my calories decrease.

In the off season, I spend more time lifting, but it still doesn't go over an hour.

Yes. But I'm still not sure I lift for more than that on a bulk. An hour at the very most.

Still, it shoudn't much over an hour to get it done. I agree... you may want to post your workout for further help.

Anywhere from 20 minutes to 60+ -- depends on what I'm doing and how I feel.

5x5's

When I did my 5x5 last summer it took longer because I had to constantly add weight to the bar so every rest period had loading plates going on during it. I would say it took about 90 minutes usually to get through a wo start to finish.

I don't get that.

Adding weight to the bar doesn't take more than what? A few seconds? It certainly doesn't add to an already ample rest interval.

My workouts are on average 45 minutes at most. I have had a few that have been like 30 minutes though.

If each rest is 3 minutes, and you have 5 of them, for 1 excercise, that is 15 minutes of rest, not including doing the excercise.

I'm doing the 5x5 from the sticky a little changed up

full squats 5x5 same weight 120 rest most times may go to 180 if I'm more tired

bench 5x5 changing weight 120s

bb rows 5x5 changing the weight 120s

bb curls 3x8 60s

then abs 3x15 45s

I do spot my hubby some times too so that can change it up for some of the rests

I upped my squats from 70 to 105 with it and I gained lots of strenght and size(from what I can see)

I liked it but its my last workout today with it.

Actual lifting 45 min- 1 hr tops no matter what I'm doing.......
On Erik's plan now about 30-40 min lifting.

It added considerable time to those workouts, every set the weight went up and no one puts shit away at my gym so I have to constantly track down plates - even when I would grab all the ones I needed before starting that still took some time.

Oly days and SM days: about 3 hours or so.

Lower body day: about 90min

Upper body day: 60-90min depending on the volume.

Usually about 40 minutes. When I'm not there during my lunch hour I change it up a bit so that I work out up to an hour.
