This might be a dumb question but here goes....
If you get regular ground beef, is it possible to "cook off" or render the fat out of it in the cooking process?

I mean, think of McDonalds and every other fast food restaurant and their hamburgers--their cooked ground beef still equates to fatty mcpatties. :S

I was thinking it was part of the cooking process... you know, on the grill with added fat. But I assumed it was just inherent in the meat. The meat itself is fattier.

No occasion. I work in the head office of a fast food chain (:funny:) and we get free meat patties all the time. I was thinking it would be a good way to save $$ if I could boil off the fat. Nice try.. but no points.
It sucks to see everyone else walking out with all this meat that I won't eat.

What type of ground beef are you using, though? You can buy 'lean' ground beef. It'll cost you a bodily organ though...from my experience, at least.

I buy ground sirloin for myself. This was just a cost saving effort... aborted at that.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ok. HAHA! That's ironic/funny about your work. I used to work at Starbucks--employees were always offered free drinks on their breaks; I was the only worker who passed up the frappuccinos and cappuccinos....plain coffee for me.
Blah.
I did steal alot of sugar-free vanilla syrup though... :]

If you are browning the meat for something like pasta sauce, you can rinse the beef in a colander with hot water after you brown it. This does actually help get rid of some of the fat. We do this all the time.

It seriously sucks as I watch all these people walking out of the test kitchen with sausage patties, beef patties, cheese, buns, bacon... and I'm at the door begging for tomatoes and lettuce. :funny: And now I don't think I can have tomatoes on Erik's plan.

NO TOMATOES!?
I'd die. They do have a bunch of sugar; It's understandable, but unfortunate.

I've been trying to figure out the tomatoes - I have a pending email on this issue. As well as a balsamic vinegar issue I'm worried about. :wavesad:
I work in business informatics, so I'm aware of which fast food restaurants have head offices located out west. I will track you down yet, missy. :hehe:

I do this, and shake it.
Yes you can render it off and rinse it.
Can you get rid of all the fat, no.
Those fast food patties probably are'nt real meat anyways.
And if they are, they are of dubious origin.

They are real meat... but you're right... of dubious origin. Each patty has flesh from hundreds of cows... *insert full body shudder here*
