I've watched the video of good mornings. I'm a little scared to do them. They look as if they have a high potential for injury.
Is this considered a more advanced move, or am I just being a weenie?

I'm going to try it with just the bar to get the form down first. (Haven't done them since my Sophomore year in high school when I took a weight training class) . . . so I'm a newbie all over again (as far as lifting real weights) and I don't think it looks too hard. We can do it. :)

Are you a beginner?

I don't do them myself but only because I have heard so many people say negative things about them and how they do have the potential for injury.

I've been lifting for about 6 months.

It is a really good exercise, but I think it's one where mastery of technique is very important.

Maybe just a bit of a weenie. I found that if you make sure your form is correct, and don't go too heavy too fast, they are very beneficial.

I actually saw someone doing what looked like a seated good morning ( if there is such a thing) the other day..what is the purpose in doing them in this manner?

I tried Good Mornings today! I liked them. They weren't scary and I didn't hurt myself.
I started with just the bar, then went up to 65 lbs. I think if I hadn't done RDLs yesterday I could have increased the weight a bit. My PC was already sore before I began. :train:

Wow! 65 lbs for good mornings is great for your first time out. I love good mornings, but haven't gone very heavy on them, for fear of losing form.
I can't even do full squats with 65 lbs yet because neither of my gyms have a squat rack and I can't clean and press more than 55. So obviously, my good mornings would be limited to 55 as well.

Thanks for the compliment. I've been doing RDLs and SDLs for several months, so I guess the pertinent muscles are already used to the movement and weight.

Yes, there is such a thing. It was in one of T-Mag's "exercises you've never tried" articles.

I love doing good mornings. When I first started doing them I went lighter than I normally do and focused on my form and then went up from there.

Mine too!
I did RDLs on Monday and GMs on Tuesday. One day, my ass WILL be high and tight!
