did a search and couldn't find anything so im hoping this isn't a duplicate thread

but i cooked up a bunch of chicken last nite around 9PM... accidentaly fell asleep and didn't put it in the fridge so it sat out for about 7 hours. have any of you eaten cooked chicken that has been unrefrigerated for this long? i know people say that if you leave it out more than 2hrs you should pitch it... but has anyone gotten sick from eating chicken that was left out longer?

gosh im probably silly for asking, should prob chuck it to be safe... but it is a lot of chicken and i would hate to throw it away!!

nice job kel, :bitch: :lol3:

Yep, me too. Is it ideal? Maybe not, but I've never been sick doing it.

If it ws left out in the hot swealtering sun and had mayo or somehting i'd say pitch it, but put it in the fridge and eat up you'll be fine :thumb:

Just a case where YMMV. I had a really bad disease back in 2004 when I had spoilt chicken soup.
I never ever keep prepared chicken around anymore for longer than a couple of hours. Actually I can't even have packages of deli meats open for 24hrs even when stored in the refrigerator without having serious GI distress.

Other people would be just fine and notice no problems whatsoever. I learnt my lesson and just prepare everything from scratch or freeze it.

Funny you should ask. I just found chicken yesterday that had been sitting out for more than a day and a half. I put it in the fridge and was planning to eat it ... but ... er, on second thought, maybe not.

How'd it go? I don't think I would have done that.

oh I have done it and will do it again. Never had issues. If I did, they were minor...more time spent in the potty but nothing that would have me not do it again.

I've eaten potato and egg salad made with mayo that's been sitting out for 6 hours inside at family picnics. I could have a stomach of steel or maybe it's not as huge a deal as it's made out to be. Oh an I'm a firm believer of the 5 second rule for anything that falls on my floor. So, I probably do have a stomach of steel.

Put the chicken down, do not eat. bacteria lives and grows in protein. Bad Bad. I

I second that.

You just shortened the shelf life of your chicken regardless of how cold you store it.

You may be fine this time, but a day or two later....

Keep a bucket handy.
