View Full Version : woot another dumb question
For those who are training with Erik, I have a question.
When my plan says for instance 1/2-1 cup veg i always take the lesser.
Yeah makes me feel hard core  as well on the days i'm really hungry I up it to the max and makes me feel full.
Since veg is almost (free so to speak) could you not on the days you were really hungry up your veg without much consequence?
Could possibly prevent bingeing. Just a thought, but i'm not sure that's allowed

Anything that prevents bingeing is a good thing. If more veggies do that, eat more veggies.

If I'm about to die...I eat some more fibrous veggies and don't worry about it.
Groovy that's good to know, because on monday when i ws psmfing I ws doing the 1/2 cup of veg and wanted to commit suicide :funny:
I love it though weird isn't it? I broadcast it to my whole family like i'm some sort martyr or something. I want everyone to know i'm hardcore. The next day I ws thinking, psychologicaly of course because I wsn't necessarily hungry, that I should have a little more veg so I would feel like I ws eating a lot.

I never measure my veggie portions and some of the veggie mixes I eat have starchier veggies in them. I used to pick them out when I was working with Erik, but I don't when I'm watching my calories now and I don't count my veggies in my totals either. It's never affected my results.
I have never measured fibrous vegetables.
I agree with Erik, if you are hungry and they will help down the urge to binge, eat up the veges.

Hmmm, maybe it's time for me to stop calculating lettuce, spinach, cucumbers, dill pickles and whatnot in my daily totals on Fitday. Aside from veggies like corn, potatoes, and the starchy variety, are their any others you really should count, i.e.?
Tomatoes
Onion
Carrots
Peas
Greenbeans
Some seem a little silly to count (don't beat me).
I only measure veg cuz my plan gives me a portion. That being said if i'm really hungry I'll up them if i'm not i'll eat what is on my plan.

None of those are technically veggies except maybe green beans (although I think its a fruit). Tomatos are fruits, carrots are roots, onions are bulbs, peas are legumes. ;) To add; corn is a grain, potatoes are tubers.
Since they aren't technically 'fibrous veggies', if you WANT to count something, you can count those. but I still think that unless you're eating buttloads of them, it isn't really going to matter.

Thanks Sarah. I used the term veggies for simple sake. But I agree, unless you are eating tons of them (any of them), what's the point of counting. :D

I dont have an amount on my plan :shhh: I usually eyeball a cup, and there have been times I have eaten more
If 1 cup is around 250 grams then that's mostly what I eat. Reason being that I'd otherwise not have enough space in my freezer for all the veggies I'd eat. I get around 1 lbs of veggies a day, which is already 3 times more than what the average Dutch(wo)man eats.
I can say though that interestingly, salad veggies are more 'filling' than fibrous veggies. I can eat way more cauliflower/broccoli/peas/carrots in weight than I can eat lettuce/spinach/chicory /bell pepper/pickles and so on.
Lately I've been eating more salad and it surprised me how much a salad fills me up.

salad my fill you, but fibrous offer more from a nutritional stand pt.
True dat. Salad veggies aren't very nutritious. Just saying how it surprised me. Just because the nutritional value isn't high, I'd dropped salad eating for a while. Now I do it again, it came as asurprise.

It doesn't in my experience. When I eat green beans, for example, I'll throw in a small handful of a veggie mix containing peas, corn, carrots and lima beans for added flavour. I don't count them, because I refuse to obsess about a quarter cup of them.

Why? you made me do it. When I started here before Erik got to me how many times exactly did you make me redo my diet? :funny:
I think you were just sitting back and laughing at me see how many times you could get me to go over it :lol3:
:lub: you were an incredible help, I'll always be thankful for that.
Uh back at it Ana... Ring a bell? :uhuh:
In regards to the salad talk--- salads CAN BE very nutritious when made with good veges. I always use baby spinach as a base, throw in bell peppers(red/orange/yellow), crimini mushrooms, celery, cucumber, radish, sometimes raw broccoli, herbs, minced garlic, roasted tomatoes & shredded carrot (offseason).

Ummmm, you don't have as much experience as I do in what works for you, so yeah, I got you to redo your diet plan a few times. Besides, you were doing really dumb stuff in your meal plans. :razz1:
