View Full Version : Shake as a Snack?

I know this wouldn't be most folks' first choice for a snack during the day, but my resources are limited in the way of preparing things at the office, etc., so. . .basically I want your opinion on this:

A vanilla shake:
160 cals
9 gs fat
4 gs carbs (1 g is sugar)
15 gs protien

I mean, that's not too terrible, is it? I'm trying so hard to eat better and allow myself certain flavors and textures so I don't snap and binge on the closest bag of delicious, but evil crunchy-whatevers. . .

I'm not "low carbing" it - but in cases where it's a shake or yogurt, I'd prefer to get the lowest carb count I can because I want the bulk of my carbs to come from veggies and some cereal-type things.

Like, this morning, I had:

3/4 c Quaker Oats "Weight Control" / lower in carbs, higher in fiber (Not the fabulous steel cut stuff, but time restrictions make all the difference. . .)
Added 1 scoop of vanilla protien powder. (It was delicious!)

Snack will be the shake as mentioned above.

Lunch will be turkey breast, tomatoes and avacado slices.

Snack will be single serve pack of cottage cheese mixed with a few tbls of low-carb blueberry yogurt.

Dinner will be lamb steak and a salad.

Sounds good. Shakes just don't fill me up much.

Where is your workout there? You can add some more carbs somewhere if you have a workout. You say you are not 'low-carbing' it, but you realize that meal plan is low carb.

Sorry! I double posted! Click happy fingers.
My workout today will be lower body (UGH!!) around 6:30.
And (kicking rock) yeah. . .I guess I see that plan is low carb. I've just been scared away from "carbs" so much that I'm freaking out about them when I'm trying to be "good." (Not when I'm in the hormone induced haze of shoving Twinkies into my mouth. . .)

I would try to add some carbs in there post-workout as well.

That doesn't seem like a lot of calories either. Do you know how many calories you are getting on this meal plan?

I use old-fashioned oats and it doesn't take more than 2 minutes to cook

What makes you scared of carbs?
