What is the difference between ephedrine and PSEUDOephedrine(I know pseudo means false, correct?) I was just looking at my sinus meds and noticed it has 30 mg. of pseudoephedrine and wondering what the differences were since the dosage amount was different. Thanks and I apologize once again if this is silly question.

As a sidenote..are those of you who are in Canada having a hard time finding otc meds( cold allergy) w/this ingredient? It has become almost impossible to find it here in SC because of our devoted methamphetamine manufacturer's/addicts.

They're both phenylalanine-derived alkaloids - sisters basically. I think there are four of them.

im in minnesota and we have to get the meds form behind the counter and sign our names on a log. we're only allowed to buy so many at a time and so many a month. i don't mind though. busts on meth houses have gone down quite a bit since they did this.

So, is one better than the other? Because if not, wouldn't you get more bang for your buck by just taking a regular cold med in combo w/ the caffeine pill since the amount is higher?

Yes, we have to do that as well here but we also have to present our driver's license..sign your life away just to get a decent sinus med. I generally don't mind but do admit it is a pita when ther eis a long line for prescription pickup and if the pharmacy is closed, you can't get anything.

Ephedrine is the best ... hence why all the supp companies used that one.

I'm having mines now. It's amazing how the very first sip can perk you up a bit. It's the aroma

I asked my friend who is a pharmacist what the difference is between pseudoephedrine and ephedrine.

Pseudoephedrine is not supposed to give you the 'jittery' feeling that ephedrine gives you. I think a lot of people who take cold meds get freaked out if their heart starts racing, although I do know people who still are affected by pseudoephedrine almost the same way as ephedrine.

Hope that helps :)

Having tried both - I find that the pseudo in cold meds does kill my appetite like ephedrine did (I haven't tried stacking it before working out however)... but my only concern is the 'rebound effect' with my sinuses that doctors talk about... That if you keep taking the cold meds for an extended period of time, your sinuses will end up swelling without them (rebounding)...

Though I guess the solution would be just use regular ephedrine then to eliminate this concern... I guess that's my question - does regular ephedrine affect sinuses the same way as the pseudo stuff does?
