View Full Version : Question Re:recipe books
When purchasing a recipe book, how important is it to you for it to include pictures of each recipe?
Feel free to include all thoughts.
Thank you :)

I love pictures!! At least I know what it's supposed to turn out like. I also hate when they give you "brand" names to use in a recipe. Sometimes the stuff is just not available.

I totally agree

I like it when there are pictures....I seem to look at the pictures first, then decide on what to make based on what looks good.
I also agree about brands in recipe books - don't like it.

It's the first thing I look for is the pictures. If almost all recipes have one, then I consider buying it. :)

I also love the pictures. Most cookbooks today have pictures of virtually every recipe in them and I think it really does make it easier for our busy lifestyles, we can look at the picture first to see if it even looks like something that we are interested in before spending time reading the recipe.
I also hate brand name ingredients, but of course these recipes are usually originated and/or published by that company. I also hate how so many recipes these days use "prepackaged" ingredients. I don't ever use cake mixes, etc. so any recipe that calls for those I won't even try. By the time I remember to purchase that particular cake mix, then I can't find the recipe that I was going to make with it! And not just baked goods, also applies for entrees, side dishes, etc. that call for a frozen veggie blend of a certain type, etc.

recipe books must.have.pictures.
if 90% of the recipes don't have pictures, I won't buy it.
"Great Cookies" by Carol Walter is a fab cookie book and has TONS of pictures so u can see what the cookies are supposed to look like.

I don't pay so much attention to the pictures. I like them but don't base my purchases on it. I buy specific types of cookbooks like vegetarian or sweets or whatever. The only exception is my Betty Crocker cookbook. Love that one for basic comfort food. I like when the ingredients and amounts are listed on the side and easy to find. However, I cook alot, so I can read a recipe and figure out if I will like the combo of flavors.

I wish some of them would include the nutritional information. Although I would also like to add, I love the pictures, if it looks good I will try to make it.

I like having the pictures too since I don't cook very well. It's always helpful to know if what I made turned out like it's supposed to! (Oh, and I hate the brand name thing too!)

I have actually bought a book, because on the cover, it said "picture of every single recipe"
But I usually use the pics for presentation ideas for other stuff.

VERY! I actually won't buy a cookbook unless there are photos of the recipes. There have been some interesting concoctions in my kitchen and it's nice to know what it's "supposed" to look like. Particularly consistency. You want to know how thick sauces are meant to be... that kind of stuff.
