When I'm counting carbs for the day, I don't add fibrous veggies, but I was wondering if I would subtract the fiber from the carbs. If something had 23 carbs and 5 g of fiber, would I count it as 18 carbs? Does anyone do this? Currently, I just count total carbs w/ out subtracting fiber.

If you wanted to get hypertechnical about it, you'd subtract HALF the fiber. Fiber is not calorie free, contrary to popular opinion. It is anaerobically fermented into short chain fatty acids. Caloric value is around 2cals/g.

Thanks! I usually like to eat more carbs than I can have on a day, so that's why I was wondering about subtracting the fiber.
