When doing full back squats, I notice that when I'm coming back up, I seem to be leading with my a*s?!?! Meaning my butt seems to come up faster than my shoulders (which are holding the barbell).

Is this right? Or should I be lowering my weight until I can do it in one smooth movement? :train:

Work on the core and keep the head/shoulders back.

Hmm, I guess I lean a little bit forward, but I'm trying to push through my heels... As suggested, it's probably due to a weak core/lower back more than anything I guess... I just found it odd that most of my momentum seems to be coming from my butt!?!

That's cause your core isn't strong enough to hold you up...I'd lower the weight to something you can use proper form w/.

You also might want to check and open your stance up... To narrow of a stance will also make you lean forward to much. And as we both know when you lean forward to much you lose control of the movement. A to narrow of a stance also is a great way to wreck your knees.

Could also be a posterior chain weakness.

Robben, how narrow are you talking here? Most oly lifters squat fairly narrow and don't have alot of knee issues.

i don't see how if a person is flexible enough to take a narrow stance. why would this matter?

Two narrow of a stance for me would be about two widths of my fists measured from the inside of the knees.. What I've found is that when I'm doing narrow stance squats its about movement of the weight, "muscle awareness". I can squat about 245lbs in narrow stance squat and about 390lbs in a normal stance.
