Can you cook these in the microwave? Everytime I try it foams up and spills all over the microwave. How do you cook them?

Are they always kind of crunchy?

I agree.

I  oatbran.

Im far tooo lazy to cook steel cut oats. I know people soak them overnight to soften some, then cook on pot in stove.

I cook my steel cuts in the micro - covered with plastic wrap with a couple holes poked in it - power 9 for 50 seconds, then my microwave has a "keep warm" button that I use for 2 minutes, it kind of keeps them simmering. I usually let them sit until I have finished getting dressed/doing my hair etc, add my pp and zap for a few seconds so they are nice and warm, yummy.

I have boiled over oatmeal so many times that once I get a method I stick to it.

What is the difference between Steel Cut Oats and Oat Bran?

I believe bran is the outer layer of the grain, and steel cut oats are the inner layer (the groat, I think). I like oat bran better than steel cut. I'm not fond of the crunchiness of the steel cut oats. Oat bran seems to soften and cook down better for me.

Steel Cut Oats or Scottish Oats or Irish Oats- These are groats which have been cut into two or three pieces by steel blades. Cooking time is considerably longer than for rolled oats.

Oat bran: The ground outer layer of the oat. Used as a hot cooked creamier breakfast cereal and is a good source of fiber.

I like that it has more fiber. Does it taste similiar to oatmeal because I really look forward to my oatmeal for breakfast. Do you add cinnamon and splenda?
