I was just hired as a consultant for a weight loss company that does a version of a PSMF diet. As a new employee I am required to do the diet for three weeks. The first week is very strict, from the menu plan I calculated about 900 calories. The next week is a bit higher and the week after that is higher. Once you reach your goal weight they give you a plan to introduce foods back into your diet, then they take you through a year of maintenance.

This diet is targeted towards extremely obese individuals who do not currently exercise. There are no exercise recommendations for the program other than walking. I only have about 10 pounds to lose and I would like to keep exercising during the diet, but I don't know if it will be possible and/or advisable. I know common sense tells me lift heavy with low volume. What would be a sample program I could do during the diet? Would the 3 day full body routine be too much?

They also tell you not to have any caffeine :unsure: which is scary considering the PSMFs I have read about on the boards practically rely on a steady intake of caffeine! :iluvcoffee:

If the calories are that 'high' what are they getting their calories from? How is it similar to a PSMF?

Yep, too much.

Just train 2-3 days a week, full body, doing a few (2-3) sets of 5-8 reps per movement. You might have one of the days at 5 reps and the other at 8 reps. You could do the third day as a higher rep depletion style workout if you want - 3x15-20 reps or something like that. Just keep the volume on the heavy days low. You're just trying to provide your body with a reason to hold onto your muscle.

It is not as strict as Lyle's PSMF but it is similar. The first week is low carb, low fat, high protein. They have you drink whey between meals and take flax supplements for EFAs. The following weeks start introducing more carbs like a little fruit, but only about 15g starchy carbs. So it is not the PSMF but a version.

I only have to try the diet for three weeks. I'm not necessarily in full agreement with their programs but a full time job is a full time job, gotta do what you gotta do.

Would this really be safe for someone extremely obese who is currently very inactive? Sorry to pirate... but I'm seeking out alternatives for my brother who is really really obese... he didn't want to do any crash diets because of the story of that guy (there was a link to his site/video on another forum a month or so ago) who lost all his weight via carb cycling but had to have all these skin flaps surgically removed... does the year of maintenance prevent that?

LOL yeah I didn't want to mention the name but that's it. :shhh: After my first week they seem like a great company, definitely not like other weight loss programs. They really care about the customer, it isn't just about the sale. They hired me as a consultant and also to teach exercise programs for the clients. So far I like it.

Ritzgal - I start the serious diet tomorrow morning. I think I miscalculated the first time, the diet should be more like 1100-1200 calories, which is still pretty low. I'll let you know how I do! No caffeine is going to SUCK. :grumble:

The fatter you are the better a PSMF will tend to work.

Yes, the program is targeted towards obese and inactive people. They give you EFA supplements and they sell other supplements that they claim will minimize skin sagging, but really when you lose that much weight there is the possibility that the skin will have lost elasticity and surgery may be needed. My current boss lost over 100 lbs on the program nine years ago and she didn't have to have any surgery to remove excess skin. The year of maintenance just provides continuing weigh ins and support so that the weight isn't regained.
