Has anyone ever tried this? I've heard that if you hold a cottonball, saturated in Visine, on your pimple, it reduces the red. Then follow with Prep H to shrink it.

I have the hugest zit you've ever seen, on my cheek!!! I swear, I can see it without even looking in the mirror. I don't have any of the above items, but thinking about running out to get some... and trying it. I'd like to make this monstrosity a little less noticeable, before work tonight. But don't want to waste my money if it doesn't work.

Getting back to the isolated pimple, once you’ve dried it out, it’s time to cover it up. Makeup artists who doll up the stars have a battery of techniques and products at their disposal. That might explain why your favorite actress looks as if she never gets visits from the zit monster. One of their trade secrets: Visine. Yes, you read that correctly. I said Visine. The same stuff that “gets the red out” of your eyes can help get the red out of your face. After you’ve done your best to dry out the pimple, soak a cotton swab in Visine. Then hold the swab to the affected area for about 10 seconds. Presto! Redness is gone. http://www.dermadoctor.com/pages/newsletter221.asp

10 seconds? Hmmm.

I know that you can also hold a cold compress on it to help the swelling go down.

http://www.dermadoctor.com/pages/newsletter221.aspThanks, Blondell. I saw a makeup artist to the stars on TV... talking about this technique. Except he also said to finish with Prep H for swelling.

I've always had problems with breakouts. In fact, I always have at least a couple zits. I don't think my skin has been perfectly clear since I was 14. Its ok. I'm used to it. I just accepted it a loooong time ago, and decided I can afford a few flaws. But this thing is flippin' heeeyoooge!!!!!!! And growing by the minute! I can feel it growing! I can see it growing before my eyes! Its alive!!! I should take a picture of it! :lol3:

I always use toothpaste. It's always worked really well for me.

Ok, I just put toothpaste on it. I have a faint recollection of having tried this in the past, with no luck. Maybe you don't get these gigantic things. This one is going to leave a scar, I'm pretty sure of it.

I was just going to run to Bartells and get those other 2 items to try. Not sure I want to go there with toothpaste on my face. How long should it take, if its going to work?

another random treatment that helps if you've caved to popping....peroxide followed up by an icecube and anti-bacterial ointment. :thumb: keeps the icky scab from forming to concealer will actually look semi-normal not a crusty scab w/ gunk on it.

I have popping issues

was Lyn serious about toothpaste?

I'm a popper

I've tried toothpaste many a times as well, and failed. Theoretically it's supposed to dry the pimple up, Fitwolf. Works for some, not so much for others...

To the OP, I've had acne problems forever as well. Two months ago I went on some drugs from the tetracycline family and my skin cleared up in like three weeks! I think I've had like two pimples since... well worth it to me. Bad skin can be so depressing. Talk to your doctor, really. I thought nothing would help,... now I'm becoming confident in my skin again. :)

Yep. I don't like to pop zits. I'm always paranoid that it will leave a scar or dark spot. The toothpaste usually dries mine up overnight. Paste works better than gel.

I definitely agree that it depends on the person. I've always had success with it, but I rarely get breakouts. Usually 1 pimple a month around the week before my cycle and that's it.

I've tried the Visine/Prep H and it worked. Earlier this week, I suggested it to one of my coworkers and while hers did not completely disappear (it was a monstrous one) it at least made it much smaller and less noticeable. Also, Prep H helps with bags under the eyes I'm told...never tried that one though. I usually use tea bags for that.

I've also heard something about green tea sticks from the Body Co.

If I remember correctly, the prep H sold in the U.S. doesn't have this "ingredient" in it for redness, etc. but the Canadian version does. Is that right?

 Not sure...but I live in Illinois . To an extent anything working on inflammation is going to reduce redness. Not sure how well it works on its own, I used the Visine/Prep H combo.

Benzoyl Peroxide has worked the best for me.

I use a combination of Oxy 10% BP face wash for a general cleanser, and the Oxy 5% BP gel for the really big guys that show up every once in a while.

I use the Panoxyl 10% BP bar for my chest, shoulders, arms and back.

Nothing I've tried works like BP products do, but they will bleach your towels so keep that in mind.

LOL, my son uses some acne cleanser products in the shower that bleach his towels. Before I knew what was making that happen I thought he was emitting bleach from his body.

If you think it is going to scar then I'd high tail it to a skin doctor and have a steroid shot in it. This should work if you haven't popped it yet.

I haven't read all the posts so this may be a repeat but Ice is good for acne-in fact if you are going through a break out spell-doing an ice rub for about 5 min a day fixes breakouts from happening-

This thread is a little old, but for what it's worth I use Mary Kay Acne Treatment Gel and it works great. The best stuff I've ever tried and the tube will last a really long time.
I put this on when I feel a pimple coming. You know what I mean, you start touching your skin in that spot or it starts to hurt...I put in on then and most times it doesn't even show up. Seriously, it's like magic. If I don't catch it in time I put the acne treatment gel on once or twice a day and it's gone in no time.
