View Full Version : How many is too many???
Ok last night Amy (Sina) and I were talking about this.. Just how many packets of splenda are too many? So many of us do better with black and white answers- no grey.. So what do you all think? 5 packets a day? 10? At what point could you be doing damage to your plan??? How many diet sodas? Crystal Light???

I'd say it depends. But, then again doesn't everything??
When I was with Erik and contest prepping he said limit it to about 5 packets. 1-2 cans diet soda/day.....
Now, I am to limit it to 2 packets (I cheat though and use 3-4 ) and NO DIET COKES! :(
I do use about 1-2 packets Crystal Lite/day

I would go quite mad without diet soda. Really.
I don't really use splenda. Except when it's in the diet soda :hehe:
I'm cutting it out this weekend though

I have discovered how damn good savory oats can be when I couldn't use any splenda......:yum:
oh wow..... I have big troubles..... ummm, I think on average.. I probably use 20 packets of splenda a day. 4 in my massive mug of coffee every morning. 2 with apple cider vinegar on my salad twice a day. There are 3 in my cottage cheese pb concoction. then if I decide on some tea, I add it in.. oh boy.. guess I need to really watch it..

I was addicted. I had to stop buying it for a while. I bought my first big bag in a long time over a week ago and still haven't opened it. I know that once I do, it'll be gone bye-bye.

True.
I also think your tastes adjust after a while if you try to decrease your consumption. I used to have 2-3 packets in my oats in the morning (3/4 cup) and then progressively decreased the amount I was using from 2 packets to 1.5 packets, then 1 and now I don't even use half a packet (but then I have blueberries with it, which adds some sweetness to the oats).
Try to decrease your # of packets in your coffee from 4 to maybe 3 and stay with 3 for 1-2 weeks. You will notice that your taste buds adjust and you don't really need that overpowering sugary taste anymore. Then go from 3 to 2 packets. Same thing for the cottage cheese/PB concoction.

man- Youre smart! You are right, I would just rather try to have some idea than continue with what I've been ingesting and have progress stop because of it.. you are right though- trial and error- everyone is different.

That's me in the offseason! I was supposed to cut it out 2 weeks ago and I just couldn't. I'm fine without the diet soda or even gum- but I had my protein pancakes/coffee/tea unsweetened for 1 day and I was SO depressed all day. I started back up the next day but I am limiting it to 3 pkts with my pancakes and 3 later in the day with a coffee or tea. Comp is next week but I really don't think I could make it without a little something sweet every day. I will eliminate it during the last 3 days when I get to carb up (I'm on 1/2 c/ day right now). ...

i don't count sugar free gum, diet coke OR splenda when i am in prep. In fact, I didn't cut any of it out until the last week (i still chewed the gum, though).
