I was taught to change up my grip (not just on those but on a lot of stuff) for variety... and I guess it also works your muscles differently, but I've never really researched how... (goes back to lurking)

Maybe you shouldn't do them.

I have read that you should not do them because they can cause shoulder impingement issues...:confused:Close or wide.

They put stress on your shoulders while you are externally rotated. This can definitely cause/aggravate problems. A wider (snatch) grip places less stress on your shoulder than a narrow grip, but it can still be problematic.

:yeahthat: my pt told me not to do them for that reason.

You worry about getting bigger shoulders in general first - get a strong overhead press first and foremost and use laterals as a secondary movement ... recognizing that it's the pressing that'll lead to great shoulders.

If my wrist is jacked up....can I substitute Cybex shoulder press or Hammer Strength shoulder press to make them bigger?

Yep

I like the Hammer one in particular. Provided you're adding weight over time and focusing on getting stronger, your shoulders will come.

Sorta OT but I did upright rows the other day and I felt like my shoulder was going to fall off...presses don't bother me at all but I can't do rows..and the weight wasn't that heavy, it was a short bar (not sure of the exact weight)
