Dedicated to Romina:

What are the primary differences in both composition and purpose of yohimbine and ephedrine?

I would have answered it if I could have. This is the next best option :)

Ephedrine - considered to be a non-specific beta adrenergic agonist (as opposed to something like Clenbuterol, which is a specific - to B2 - beta agonist). Ephedrine also exerts most of its effects by stimulation of the catacholamine norepinephrine.

Yohimbine - an alpha-2 adrenergic antagonist.

Consider alpha receptors and beta receptors to be 'opposites' for lack of a more thorough description. Depending on which are stimulated, fat loss can be either stimulated or inhibited

When you stimulate beta receptors the simple message is to increase lipolysis (fat burning). When you stimulate alpha receptors, the message is the opposite - inhibit it.

When you block beta receptors (think of drugs like beta blockers/prednisone), what happens? You typically gain bodyfat. So, blocking beta receptors results in the opposite signaling.

When you block alpha receptors, specifically this alpha-2 receptor that yohimbine attaches to, it's like a double negative - which results in a positive. Remember that stimulating alphas results in an inhibition of the fat-burning/lipolysis message, so blocking them, does the opposite.

Interestingly enough, while ephedrine stimulates the beta receptors, it also has a small stimulatory effect on the alpha receptors - not so good as when these receptors are stimulated they actually inhibit further NE release. So blocking these receptors by way of something like yohimbine removes that inhibition to NE release.

Alpha receptors tend to be found in areas of stubborn bodyfat - areas characterized by poor blood flow, etc. (typically the lower bodies in females and the abdominal region in males). Yohimbine, due to its ability to block or bind alpha receptors can help increase blood flow to these stubborn, poorly capillarized regions.

Consider yohimbine when it acts in this fashion as more of a 'fat mobilizer' due to the improvement in blood flow to the local fat stores. Then once the fatty acids are mobilized you can 'burn them off' with some cardio (otherwise they'll likely just get reesterified back into TGs) - hence the idea behind Lyle's Stubborn Fat Protocol.

Hope that all makes sense.

Erik-Do you recommend this to your clients? Would you discourage them from taking it? Why or why not?

Legally, I can't recommend something like that, so I don't.

I can educate someone and answer their questions on it, but in the end, I have to encourage people to do their own research and make their own INFORMED decision. I don't make the recommendation. I might say something like this is an 'option' for them to use when they ask or something like that.

Me too. Anything that'll help burn more stubborn fat!

Has anyone seen cases where Ephedrine then stimulates the alpha receptors enough that it inhibits the effect of stimulating the beta receptors ?

Shouldn't happen.

So, questions for the people who have taken Y...
Did you notice any side effects? Do you think it helped?
What brand do you take?

...and it is supposed to be a sexual stimulant...?

No side effects.

I do think it helped. I've felt the SFP "tingles," partly due to the intervals, SS cardio, caffeine, and yohimbine, I believe.

Yes. On the outside of the bottle it says it helps with sex drive. I'm mum on that one ;)

I am somewhat paranoid when it comes to supps and their effect on BCP's...Do you or anyone else know about that?
I couldn't find any information when I read up on specific brands.
What brand are you taking?

Read this: http://leanbodiesfitness.com/forums/showpost.php?p=703097&postcount=17

That's an account of a BAD set of side effects... even on pretty low dosing.

Always test out Y on your body using very small doses to see how you react.

BCP= bill control pill? If so, no effect on me.

Brand is Prima Force.

The one herbal supp that I know of that affects BCP is St John's Wort. I read a study on it a while back, and with my foggy memory of it, I think it can reduce BCP effectiveness by up to 40%.

What do you suppose a good starting dose of these would be? Obviously bw dependent, right?

Maria

It is 0.2mg/ kg.

Erik

It is 0.2mg/ kg.

Correct. But a smart idea is to start low and work your way up to it.

Plus 200mg of caffeine and 1-3g of tyrosine.

For some it will have a stimulatory effect, but milder than ephedrine. You definitely want to keep Y dosing away from E dosing by a good 4-6 hours (or more if necessary for you).

I believe much of the sides with Y usage are minimized when you're using YHCL as opposed to the herbal equivalent - yohimbe. In the latter, there's about 32 isomers in the yohimbane family and depending on the time of year the plant is harvested you're going to get different concentrations of the various isomers present. That's when you can get some really nasty side effects.

...and it is supposed to be a sexual stimulant...?

Related to the increased blood flow ... in this caes, to the 'nether regions'.

which country exactly are those regions located in? :lol3:

Maria

Yeah, I would go with the Y HCL...and plain old coffee...
I am not taking E, so would not be a problem.

I'd rather caffeine pills - you don't know how much caffeine you're getting with coffee. And caffeine pills are dirt cheap anyway, but that's just my opinion.

Potentiating the release of the catacholamines.

I just read the complete thread that was linked and it seems that the SFP itself might be enough and the supps are not necessarily needed?
I am just trying to figure out if purchasing them is worth it...

Is caffeine necessary? I love my coffee, but I'm so sensitive to the caffeine that I can't do more than 1/2 caffeine and 1/2 decaf. If I took caffeine pills I'd be a basket case. I get major anxiety and shakiness.

Getting back to this -

When would be the optimal time to take this? Before fasted cardio was mentioned somewhere......

Erik

Yep, AM cardio, fasted.

Meal after it, you could do just protein.
