View Full Version : Boredom and eating

Ana
11-07-2007, 06:08 PM
I eat when I'm bored. I don't know why, I mean eating doesn't make time go by any faster but I still do it.
Well I haven't in the past couple of weeks as I've been trying hard to keep my focus and get back on track.
Thing is I want to pull the hair out of my head, or poke my eyes out or something.
We are going into our slow season at work for November, December and January.
Any ideas on what you all do? This board aint cutting it. It helps but I'm still tempted to eat all the time.

Call somebody, read a book, get outside (granted your not in MN :lol3: ), shop, take a bath, clean, DONT bake :lol3:, go somewhere like barnes and noble where you can have coffee and read, walk

Ana

I should have been a little clearer. I'm a work. I can't leave, I'm stuck behind a computer and I get most of my work done byt noon. I'm that efficient
I don't feel this way at home. I clean the crap out of my house that keeps me busy.

Amy

So you want something to do at work? Hmmm....I will think on it. I know for me I am the same way with eating. When I am busy I never think about food.

Eat a fireball!!!

What do you eat @ work?
Is there a snack bar or vending machines?

Ana
11-07-2007, 06:29 PM
Nope I pack my cooler and eat my meals. There is no vending machine but a restaurant two doors down and lots of goodies in the office to chose from.
Like I said I"ve been good but feeling like I want to slit my wrists doesn't make me feel fuzzy inside. Sheeeeeeeeeeeesh it's just crap that's going to make me feel nasty after, I don't get it

:( I don't know how to help you. When I'm 'on' I'm 'on'...but lately without a clear goal or a wakeup call I, too, can overeat when I am bored.

Maybe do some 'net research?

blogs, ebay (browse through the weird & unusual listings ), museumofhoaxes.com, cuteoverload.com, surf youtube, learn to knit (if your hands are busy it makes snacking harder!), read (books, magazines), origami, online games (tetris, Scrabble, mystery type, all kinds!), sketch, make paper snowflakes, search for colouring pages online for your kiddo, plan things to do with the family, do your nails, teach yourself to juggle ... :D

digital scrapbooking vs the real paper kind...you can do scrapbooking on the computer...the stuff looks the same as the stuff you buy in stores, but it's on the computer...when you're done the page, you print it out. Or you can display them on a website or something...they're actually pretty cool...and pretty intricate...cause you can use all kinds of fonts and stuff without having to buy the cutters like the real scrapbooking requires...

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm at the computer all day and when I don't have as much work to do I want to be eating junk, candy, cookies, crap, crap, crap.
I also know it's not a treat if you eat it every day, I have tried to sit on my hands, I've tried to think about sex but that just makes me horny and hungry :girly: I've tried to clean the office but that only takes so long :ban:

Not really. At home I use an apple laptop (it's white) and my husband is so anal that he gets really upset if there's any evidence of food anywhere near 'his' computer  At work, I'm just so used to only eating at my set times (which revolve around what time I go to the gym).

Ana when I used to work (I do it know when I go to school) I would never bring any cash with me and that would really help me not to buy anything because I did not want to use my credit/debit card for $2. It really made me think about making a stupid purchase that I knew I would regret.

I used to work in a maximum security prison (this is irrelevant) doing in-jail court load work (which meant a LOT of computer time), and my office used to be the last office down the hall, next to the break room where there were a ton of vending machines. I'd always get done with my workload a few hours before quitting time, and that room was like a magnet! I ate so much junk!

Of course, I was also overweight because of it.

I eat when I'm bored too, so I just try to do ANYTHING to occupy my time. That, or I either try and keep some ready-made healthy snacks waiting for me in the FRONT of the refrigerator. I have my chicken already cooked, some shrimp, and some cut-up vegetables usually on hand. I put them in the front, so they're easier to grab than DH's crap snacks in the back. (But then he gets frustrated when he always has to move things to get to his food.) Ha!
