I wrecked my ankle earlier this year and put on some weight due to inactivity. I've finally had it fixed and am now trying to get myself all fixed up.

So I'm basically sofa-bound for the next two weeks while recovering from ankle reconstruction surgery. Then another 4 weeks on crutches (no weight bearing) and then another 6 weeks of light weight bearing while still on crutches.

The question I have is... how important is it to eat at maintenance during this time, allowing for healing, or is it possible to continue eating at a deficit without compromising healing?

This is not the time to be worrying about losing weight. Eat at maintenance and give your body the foodies it needs to recover.

Sorry about the ankle.

:grumble: what I knew, but didn't want to accept. Harumph.

Crap! Just realized it was you! What's with all the name changes around here? It's going to take me weeks to catch up!

It's probably best to keep calories at maintenance or at the least, just slightly below, with carbs also not being too low.

Glad to hear that ankle has finally been taken care of.

 Hi boss. Thanks for the input... should I drop the AM oats and stick to egg whites? The carbs I'm eating are sweet potatoes and the oats... that's about it.

Smugs, that's what I count on! :thumb:

I see no reason to drop the oatmeal.

Don't know about the others but in the past 3 weeks when I found out and am recovering from shingles (recurring chickenpox) my maintenance went up considerably to about the level what I achieve when working out EOD.
Only now, after 3 weeks maintenance is dropping again.

I'm not aware what happens when your body is healing bones, but it's not smart to be on a deficit.

I kinda figured. Though process told me calories would be required for healing.
