Hey all! I need some help please! I want to sub my 85g chicken breast for ground turkey and can not for whatever reason figure this out!
Here is the package-->That is the raw weight
I weighed the whole package raw and it came out to be--->586g
Then weighed it again after I cooked it--->430g
BTW this is the ground turkey from Trader Joe's..for those that may use this ground turkey

Your main goal would be to match calories per serving. So when I'm not sure, I have found myfitnesspal app on my phone tremendously helpful. You can adjust the serving size of your ground turkey until you have the same calorie level as your chicken.

Usually the stats on the package are based on it raw. So you could just figure out based on what you are subbing, how many calories that is and measure this raw.

I usually do that with ground turkey, when making the pizza, as it is easier that way.

112g-120 calories. How many calories is your subbed item? Figure out the grams from that.

It should be 125g of raw ground turkey to equal your 85 g of chicken breast

So on myfitnesspal is shows 4oz equals 120 cals. 4oz=113g. I believe this is cooked???
The calories for the chicken I am subbing is 134.
So it would come out to be 122g ground turkey. Now is this cooked? I cook it all in a big pan at once. So trying to figure out what the cooked grams would be for 85g chicken(134cals)
Lol I just don't want to be eating 122g cooked when it is suppose to be a lot less.

what percent of fat is that?

heres what our food calc says for purdue 99% fat free ground turkey as a sub:

    85 grams of Chicken Breast
    converts to
103.14 grams of 99% Fat-Free Ground Turkey Breast (Purdue)

Food Amount Calories Carbs Fat Protein
    Chicken Breast 85 grams 134 0g 3g 27g
    99% FFGr Turk Br (Purdue) 103.14 grams 134 0g 1g 31g

usually the amount on the package is raw. So I assumed raw. Not cooked. I know mine is similar, and I'm pretty sure it is raw, not cooked, and it has similar calories and weight.

If it is cooked, it might be 103..like Ileen is saying cooked. Mine is similar stats and is 99% fat free, like Ileen's example.

Wow! I feel like I am back in my college Algebra class, lol. Yeah, sometimes the cook verses raw on the food labeling trips me up because it isn't always clear. grrrr
