Hey thanks for pointing me towards these veggies or should I say root/bulbous starches!
Thankfully this is still one that gets sold in our supermarket, even (great for lazy bums like me) as a pre-cut veggie or maybe they only do so in winter!

Over here we call them 'koolraap' which leads to confusion when they are mixed up with a smaller type of veggie called 'knolraap' or 'meiknol' (may bulb) since they are most abundant in may. And it is these that are the actual turnips! Erik is just confused :p

The rutabaga is called in Latin: Brassica napobrassica

    The turnip: Brassica rapa

PS: Ileen be careful to not overdo intake of rutabaga.. saw a warning further down , though when I read things correctly the danger only occurs when someone is NOT ingesting enough iodine.. thanks to the use of sea salt that shouldn't happen?
Also some fun facts on how some people may find rutabagas intolerably bitter...

    mmmmm ruuutabaga!

I just planted mine today ... but have a store bought one I need to cook up.

They are really good mashed w/a bit of butter, s/p, and almond milk Or add in a touch of cinnamon and a splash of maple syrup :yum:

I'd rather eat a puppy than a rutabaga.

I discovered jicama last summer.. but not sure of the best way to prepare them. Any ideas? I was eating them raw sliced into thin strips.

you can saute them.. I've seen where they make 'apple pie' with the seasonings.

I should edit the title of this to 'turnips'.
